The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment, announcing plans to expand skills training to artificial intelligence (AI) and technology.

NDDC Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku disclosed the plans at a Port Harcourt graduation for 30 youths who completed fashion and garment design training.

The beneficiaries were selected from 100 participants who attended the Commission’s fashion design programme in 2025, based on competence.

Ogbuku said NDDC had equipped the graduates with skills, urging them to keep improving their craft.

He challenged them to establish businesses, become self-reliant entrepreneurs, create jobs and share their skills. He encouraged them to seek mentorship from training consultant Greg Daniel.

The NDDC chief said planned AI and technology training would help young people prepare for the future and reduce unemployment.

He urged graduates not to allow their environment to limit their ambitions, saying they could build successful fashion businesses.

“Don’t be limited by your mind or where you come from,” he said.

NDDC Executive Director (Projects) Victor Antai described the programme as an investment in human potential and regional prosperity.

He said it was designed to develop entrepreneurs and employers, strengthen the Niger Delta fashion industry and jobs.

Antai urged graduates to embrace discipline, creativity, professionalism and integrity. He highlighted customer satisfaction, commitment and financial management as essential to building trusted brands.

Executive Director (Corporate Services) Ifedayo Abegunde urged participants to apply their knowledge to establish sustainable businesses.

Director of Commercial and Industrial Development Lyna Okara encouraged graduates to develop distinctive fashion brands.

The training consultant, Daniel, commended NDDC . According to Director of Corporate Affairs Seledi Thompson-Wakama, he said participants received training in advanced garment production and entrepreneurship.

The programme reflects NDDC’s effort to link skills acquisition with enterprise creation, helping youths turn training into livelihoods.
