9jaFoodFiesta Launches Free Skill Empowerment Program in Jigawa State

Jigawa State recorded a remarkable turnout as 9jaFoodFiesta officially launched its free skill empowerment program at the Manpower Development Institute on Friday, 15th November 2025. More than 2,500 participants were present at the event, which aims to train 2,000 youths and women, including 200 persons with disabilities, in key vocational and ICT skills designed to expand economic opportunities across the state.

The organization described itself as a passionate non-governmental group focused on empowering Nigerian youths and women through training in ICT, Culinary Arts, Agriculture, and other vocational fields. According to the organizers, their mission is to promote self-reliance, create employment, and support community development across the country.

Before the official launch, screening of participants had already started to ensure proper documentation and a smooth training process. The early screening helped the team verify interested candidates, capture accurate information, and prepare the necessary structures for effective training sessions. During the launch event, volunteers continued the screening exercise as more participants arrived, ensuring that everyone was properly registered and guided to their specific training categories. This combined effort helped manage the large crowd of over 2,000 individuals who were eager to join the empowerment program.

The official unveiling of the Jigawa State Free Skill Empowerment Training was described as a major milestone for the state, attracting youths, women, and persons with disabilities who were ready to gain new skills that could transform their livelihoods. Several notable dignitaries attended the event, including Muhammed Galambi, representing Hon. Yusuf Galambi Ajawam of the House of Representatives, Gwaram Federal Constituency; Yakubu Mohammed Gambi, representing Hon. Yusuf Gambi Ajawan of the House of Representatives, Gwaram Federal Constituency; Alhassan Farouk, representing First Bank; Salma Abdullahi from the Ministry of Women Affairs; Usman Mas’ud Maikanti from the Ministry of Information; and Amb. Binta Lawan Umae, the 9jaFoodFiesta Jigawa State Coordinator.

During the event, the CEO of 9jaFoodFiesta delivered a welcome message focused on the importance of skill acquisition for long-term economic growth. He explained that practical skills hold more lasting value than temporary support materials, saying they give individuals the power to build sustainable income for themselves, their families, and their communities. He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities and called for more partnerships and government involvement to expand the impact of the initiative. His message highlighted a guiding principle of the program, stating, “Instead of giving you fish, we will teach you how to fish.”

The statement deeply resonated with participants, many of whom said they felt renewed hope and motivation to build successful businesses from the skills they would acquire.

The launch marks the beginning of a significant empowerment journey for thousands of people across Jigawa State, as the organization expressed readiness to work closely with the state government to deliver the program effectively and continue building a skilled and self-reliant generation across Nigeria.

Tinubu urges G20 to make Africa centre of value creation, not raw materials

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed Nigeria’s call for a global system that treats Africa fairly, urging G20 leaders and international partners to ensure the continent becomes a place of value creation, innovation, and dignified work rather than a continuous supplier of raw materials. He stressed that Africa must no longer remain at the lowest end of the global value chain, especially in the extraction and trade of critical minerals that power many modern industries.

Speaking at the Third Session of the 2025 Group of 20 Leaders’ Summit held at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in South Africa, President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said Africa’s natural resources present a major opportunity for transformation, but only if managed with fairness and accountability. He emphasised that the mere possession of critical minerals does not guarantee prosperity for any nation unless the systems around extraction and trade are governed by transparency and equitable practices.

According to him, “Nigeria calls for a global framework that promotes value addition at the source, supports local beneficiation, and ensures that communities hosting these resources are not left behind.” He added that the issue goes beyond economic figures and reflects the moral character of the global future being built. The President stressed that the responsible use of critical minerals must bring shared progress, especially for the communities who live closest to these resources.

Tinubu described the global green and digital transitions as opportunities that must remain people-centred. He stated that decent work is the foundation of fair and sustainable development because it ensures people have the chance to grow, contribute, and benefit from prosperity. He explained that Nigeria, through the Renewed Hope Agenda, is preparing its young population for the future by investing in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and vocational skills to make them globally competitive.

He called on the G20 to deepen collaboration on technology transfer, capacity development, and investments that place human dignity above profit. Tinubu urged global partners to support policies and frameworks that help African countries expand local industries, move up the value chain, and create better-quality jobs.

The President also addressed the rising global influence of artificial intelligence, noting that AI has immense potential to speed up development across the world. However, he warned that the benefits will not be felt equally unless global standards are created to guide its use. He said Nigeria supports the development of ethical standards for artificial intelligence that guarantee safety, transparency, and equity.

According to him, “We must ensure that AI becomes a tool of empowerment, not exclusion; of job creation, not displacement.” He called for strong partnerships between developed and developing countries, between private and public sectors, and between innovation and inclusion to ensure that AI works for everyone. Tinubu added that the G20 must address systemic bias and promote ongoing dialogue to make sure the benefits of AI are shared fairly and that the risks are managed responsibly.

The Nigerian leader also called for the G20 to take seriously its responsibility to shape an economy that uplifts people, not one that shuts them out. He said critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence share a common purpose in building a global system that values every human being. He urged world leaders to support a future where Africa becomes a hub of value creation and innovation rather than remaining a source of raw materials.

In a separate address at the summit, President Tinubu urged world leaders to reform the global financial system to make it more equitable and responsive to the needs of all nations, especially developing countries. He warned that many nations face recurring debt crises and structural barriers that limit economic growth and access to financial opportunities.

Represented again by Vice President Shettima, he said the current international financial architecture was built in a different era and no longer reflects the complexities of today’s world. He noted that this year’s summit theme, which focuses on inclusive and sustainable economic growth, development financing, trade, and debt challenges, captures the realities faced by developing nations.

Calling for fairness, Tinubu said, “Only a more equitable and more responsive system can manage global financial flows with fairness, address recurring debt crises with sincerity and meet the needs of all nations, especially those in the Global South who have too often stood at the margins of global opportunity.” He explained that Africa cannot rise on aspirations alone and needs stronger support to tackle long-standing challenges, including limited access to sustainable financing for development projects.

He observed that many economies in the developing world are weighed down by rising debt burdens, which push them back into cycles of vulnerability and create global risks. Tinubu urged the G20 to place debt sustainability and responsible mineral utilisation at the centre of its agenda for global development.

He said the G20 Leaders’ Declaration must commit to policies that drive sustainable growth, expand financial inclusion, and address emerging global risks. He stressed that Africa is calling for genuine partnership, fairness, and long-term collaboration as it works toward a future defined by innovation, opportunity, and dignity for its people.

Katsina Government Sets Date for First InvestKatsina Economic Summit

Katsina State Government has announced plans to host the first edition of the InvestKatsina economic and investment summit, an event organized in collaboration with the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.

The summit is scheduled to take place from Monday, 24th to Tuesday, 25th November 2025 at the Continental Event and Sports Complex in Katsina. It will run under the theme “Building the Future of Katsina’s Economy,” and will be formally declared open by the State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.

The Director General of the Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency, Ibrahim Jikamshi, described the summit as “a decisive step toward repositioning Katsina State as a globally competitive, private sector–driven economy capable of creating jobs, reducing poverty, and unlocking new opportunities for the people.” He said the initiative reflects the commitment of the Radda administration to rebuild the state’s economy after years marked by insecurity, unemployment, low productivity, and weak industrial performance.

Jikamshi explained that the administration’s long-term ambition is clear. “Our vision is clear: to transform Katsina into an agricultural haven and an investment-friendly state driven by innovation, industry, and modern governance,” he said. According to him, the summit will showcase Katsina’s competitive strengths in agriculture, MSMEs, ICT, mining, manufacturing, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. These sectors, he noted, have the potential to attract both local and international investors.

He added that Katsina must deepen investment partnerships to reverse the economic challenges identified in various national reviews, including the BudgiT State of States report, which ranked Katsina as the 19th largest economy in 2022. “This Summit is where we reset the direction of our economy,” he stated.

The two-day programme will include keynote addresses, sector-based presentations, exhibitions, panel discussions, investment launches, and the signing of major agreements expected to support both short-term projects and long-term development planning. Organizers say the event aims to elevate Katsina’s visibility before global investors and highlight the state’s readiness for business and international cooperation.

The summit will also help investors easily identify opportunities across strategic sectors, making it simpler for them to spot viable projects. Another key target of the event is to strengthen ties between the government, the private sector, business groups, and development partners to support inclusive and sustainable growth. It will provide a platform for experts, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to share insights and explore new areas of collaboration.

According to Jikamshi, the summit will offer investors “clear, reliable, and actionable insights” backed by a new investment framework that will be launched during the event. He said the discussions are expected to set the foundation for long-term reforms. “This Summit is not just an event; it is a commitment to building a stronger, modern Katsina,” he noted.

He acknowledged the support of NIPC, UNDP, and NESG and confirmed that all logistics for the world-class summit are in place. The Organizing Committee added that the event will adopt a hybrid format to allow participation from global investors. Governor Radda, senior officials, development partners, and leaders from key economic sectors will attend throughout the two-day summit.
