0

The Federal Government has announced a plan to empower at least seven million Nigerian youths through dual vocational training and digital skills development programmes.

Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the IHK Giessen-Friedberg Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Germany, held in Abuja on Tuesday.

In a statement by Omolara Esan, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the minister said the initiative reflects the government’s strong commitment to equipping young Nigerians with practical, industry-relevant skills that encourage self-reliance, innovation, and employability.

He stated that the Federal Government, through the Nigerian Youth Academy (NIYA), is working closely with German and Nigerian institutions to expand access to vocational and digital learning opportunities in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Our goal is not just to produce job seekers but to nurture innovators and entrepreneurs who will contribute meaningfully to the nation’s economy,” the minister said.

Olawande explained that the ministry is strengthening partnerships with the Chambers Academy, the Nigerian Institute for Vocational Training and Corporate Development, and the German Chambers of Commerce, alongside relevant ministries and agencies including Labour and Science, to widen learning access for young people.

He added that the ministry will soon launch a digital learning platform under the Nigerian Youth Academy, modelled after international systems such as Coursera, to make skill acquisition more accessible to young Nigerians across the country.

The minister described the youth development strategy as a tripartite framework anchored on Support, Empowerment, and Protection, aimed at ensuring that young Nigerians thrive in a competitive global environment.

“This collaboration is not just about programmes; it is about building the future of our young people. Together, we can ensure that Nigerian youth are empowered, innovative, and globally competitive,” Olawande said.

Chief Executive Officer of the IHK Giessen-Friedberg Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Matthias Leder, reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to supporting Nigerian youth through vocational education and legal migration programmes.

He commended the Federal Government’s effort in advancing youth skill development and acknowledged the success of ongoing bilateral projects between Nigeria and Germany.

Dr. Leder revealed that 300 Nigerian youths have been selected for the Legal Labour Migration and Dual Vocational Training Project, adding that they will be honoured in Lagos on November 12, 2025, after completing their A1 German language training.

He praised the German dual training model, where apprentices earn from the first day, and encouraged stronger cooperation between Nigerian and German institutions to expand opportunities for young people and strengthen bilateral relations.

Federal Ministry of Education

Akwa Ibom civil service main exam CBT result out

The Akwa Ibom Civil Service main examination commenced on Tuesday for the first batch, and the result for the CBT examination is now out on each candidate’s portal. The CBT results appear instantly on the dashboard of the Arise Employment Portal, which can be accessed at cbt.akwaibomstate.gov.ng, and are also sent to each candidate’s email.

Applicants who score 40% or above will be shortlisted for the next stage, which is the interview phase.

The CBT result displays each candidate’s score, total passed, and total failed. However, if the claims by Governor Umo Eno are true, any candidate who fails the CBT examination will not be offered the job, regardless of their connections. Governor Eno has repeatedly stated that “there is no slot; it is either you pass the exams and start work, or you fail and go home.”

There have been complaints that the Akwa Ibom Civil Service Commission allocated 40 minutes for 60 questions in the main exam, compared to 45 minutes for 50 questions in the mock CBT. Still, this is not enough reason for candidates who do not meet the cut-off mark.

Applicants who have not yet received their email invites will get them soon, as invitations are being sent out in batches, ensuring every eligible candidate receives theirs.

World Bank’s $500m loan to accelerate Nigeria’s agricultural development

0

Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has announced that the $500 million loan facility from the World Bank will accelerate development in Nigeria’s agricultural ecosystem in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the agricultural sector.

The Minister made this statement when he received a World Bank delegation led by Hardwick Ichale, Head of Agriculture Value Chains for Growth (AGROW Project), during a courtesy visit to the Ministry in Abuja.

Senator Kyari explained that the World Bank’s $14 billion six-year Agri-Connect initiative would address long-standing gaps in smallholder farming by improving connectivity across the entire agricultural value chain. He said the initiative aims to strengthen links between farmers, processors, markets, and financial systems, ensuring stronger value chains, expanded agro-processing capacity, and improved rural livelihoods.

He noted that the programme would support farmer aggregation, market linkages, and the integration of micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs) into key agricultural value chains. According to him, “the success of this programme depends on organised farmer participation, transparency, and effective oversight to ensure accountability and maximise impact.”

The Minister reaffirmed that the intervention aligns with President Tinubu’s strategic priorities, especially under the national drive for food security, rural industrialisation, and job creation. He added that Agri-Connect would complement existing Federal Government programmes such as the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZs), which aim to boost rural agro-industrial growth and create more opportunities for youth and women in agribusiness.

In his remarks, Hardwick Ichale said the AGROW Project would unlock Nigeria’s agribusiness potential through job creation, inclusivity, and increased productivity. He stated that “the project will focus on specific value chains such as rice, maize, soybean, and cassava,” adding that “the key purpose is to enable farmers to see farming as a business.”
