NBTE abolishes NID programme, upgrades 46 institutions to National Diploma

0

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has announced key reforms aimed at harmonizing and strengthening the National Diploma (ND) framework across Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. The move follows recent approvals granted by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, CON.

According to a statement by the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, the National Innovation Diploma (NID) programme has been discontinued with immediate effect. “This policy seeks to establish a unified and harmonized National Diploma framework that ensures academic progression and consistency across Nigeria’s tertiary education system,” Prof. Bugaje stated.

By the new directive, institutions formerly known as Innovation Enterprise Institutions (IEIs) are abolished. Institutions currently running NID programmes will be allowed to graduate their Year II students, while Year I students admitted in October 2025 may either complete the NID programme or switch to the ND equivalent.

In line with these reforms, the Minister of Education has approved the upgrade of 46 Innovation Enterprise Institutions with valid accreditation to National Diploma-awarding status. This upgrade is part of the government’s effort to create a streamlined and progressive TVET structure in Nigeria. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been informed of this development to ensure a smooth transition in the national admissions process. The list of upgraded institutions is available on the NBTE website.

In a related decision, the Minister has approved the revocation of operational licenses of 136 Innovation Enterprise Institutions whose accreditation had lapsed without renewal. These institutions will be delisted from the JAMB portal and will no longer admit students into NID programmes. However, such institutions may continue as sub-tertiary institutions if they meet the regulatory standards. The list of revoked institutions can be viewed Here.

Prof. Bugaje reaffirmed NBTE’s commitment to promoting quality assurance, institutional compliance, and expanding access to technical education. He emphasized that these reforms are designed to build a more credible, efficient, and globally competitive TVET system that supports Nigeria’s national development goals.

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young Nigerians through technology, innovation, and digital finance. This was announced through the Federal Ministry of Youth Development at the “Empowering Nigerian Youth Through Solana Summit: Stablecoins Africa” held on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Speaking at the summit, the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, described Nigeria’s youth as the nation’s greatest strength and the main drivers of transformation. He said, “Nigeria has the largest youth population in its history, with over 50 percent under 25. This is not a challenge; it is our greatest opportunity. Our goal is to equip our youth with the digital skills and confidence to lead in a rapidly changing world.”

Comrade Olawande explained that the government’s renewed agenda for youth empowerment is centered on practical initiatives that deliver access, skills, and opportunity. He said, “We are not just talking about innovation, we are building it. From digital literacy to financial inclusion, we are giving young Nigerians the tools to create, compete, and contribute to national growth.”

The Minister highlighted the role of technology in shaping economic development and mentioned the Super Team Nigeria startup program, which recently featured over 13 youth-led ventures promoting digital finance and innovation. Discussions at the summit also focused on Startcoin, a new concept integrating technology, trust, and inclusion to promote youth-driven digital solutions across Africa.

Comrade Olawande further reaffirmed ongoing Ministry programs such as the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), Youth Cred Initiative, and Asset Credit Program. These initiatives are aimed at building capacity, promoting entrepreneurship, and supporting digital financing opportunities for young innovators.

He added, “Our young people must become not just users but creators and regulators in the digital economy. That’s why we’re introducing training on blockchain, cybersecurity, and digital finance to prepare them for global relevance.”

Nzube Ezudo, Lead of Superteam Nigeria, commended the Minister’s commitment to youth innovation. He said, “What we see today is true partnership between government and the innovation community. Nigerian youth are already building solutions that can compete globally, and this collaboration helps them scale their impact.”

Gov Radda distributes 4000 irrigation pumps, farm inputs to Katsina farmers

0

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots agricultural transformation as he officially flagged off the distribution of irrigation equipment and farm inputs to farmers across the state.

The event, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Katsina, was organized under the Katsina State Community Development Programme (CDP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Katsina State Irrigation Authority.

In his address, Governor Radda described the occasion as a continuation of his administration’s vision to empower rural communities and strengthen agriculture as the foundation of Katsina’s economy. “Today’s event is not merely a distribution exercise,” the Governor said. “It is a reflection of our collective commitment to improving the lives of our people, especially our hardworking farmers whose efforts put food on our tables every day.”

Governor Radda explained that the items being distributed, including 4,000 irrigation water pumps, 4,000 knapsack sprayers, herbicides, and liquid fertilizers, are part of a deliberate effort to make farming more productive and profitable while ensuring food security in Katsina State. He noted that the Community Development Programme was created to bring governance closer to the grassroots, allowing communities to identify their needs and drive their own progress.

“When I assumed office, I made a promise that government would no longer sit in comfort while our people struggle in silence. That promise gave birth to the CDP — a structure that allows government to listen directly to the people and respond to their real needs,” Radda stated.

The Governor directed the CDP to handle logistics, monitoring, and accountability to ensure transparency in the distribution process. He also instructed the Katsina State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KTARDA) to deploy agricultural extension officers to educate farmers on the correct use of the equipment.

“These tools belong to our farmers, but more importantly, they belong to the future of Katsina State. Use them wisely to improve your productivity and lift your families out of hardship,” he advised.

Governor Radda commended the Ministry of Agriculture, KTARDA, the CDP teams, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and development partners for supporting the initiative.

Earlier in his remarks, the Coordinator of the Community Development Programme, Dr. Kamal, highlighted the wide impact of the CDP since its launch. “From November last year to date, there is hardly any community in Katsina that has not felt the impact of the CDP,” he said. “Through numerous initiatives, we have distributed fertilizers at polling units, provided ₦50,000 financial support to widows and vulnerable women through the KT-Cares initiative, and supported smallholder farmers to boost their productivity.”

Dr. Kamal noted that during the Ramadan period, the CDP reached thousands of families with food items through community committees, demonstrating the programme’s ongoing commitment to empowering verified irrigation farmers with modern tools.

In his speech, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Aliyu Lawal Shargalle, thanked Almighty Allah for blessing Katsina with a leader who values agriculture deeply. He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment, stressing that they are not for sale but meant to improve farming practices and promote food security. “This initiative will enhance irrigation farming, promote sustainable food production, and strengthen our state’s agricultural base,” he said.

The Managing Director of the Katsina State Irrigation Authority, Engr. Salim Suleiman, described the event as historic and transformative for Katsina’s agricultural sector. “These materials are not for sale. They are meant to transform our farms and enhance productivity. If used properly, they will uplift our communities and improve our economy,” he stated. He expressed gratitude to the Governor for his continuous support to farmers and his dedication to sustainable agricultural development.

Speaking on behalf of the 34 local government chairmen, Hon. Rabo Tambaya, Deputy ALGON Chairman, commended Governor Radda’s leadership and the CDP’s role in advancing rural development. “This empowerment programme is another milestone in the history of agriculture in Katsina. Through the CDP, His Excellency has brought governance and development closer to the people. These unprecedented initiatives — from fertilizer distribution to direct cash support for widows and farmers, and now today’s distribution of irrigation farming materials to 4,000 beneficiaries — have never been witnessed in Nigeria’s history,” Tambaya stated.

He reaffirmed ALGON’s commitment to supporting the Governor’s agricultural revolution, emphasizing that the initiative would strengthen rural livelihoods, reduce poverty, and ensure sustainable food security across the state. “We stand firmly behind Your Excellency. With your foresight and people-centered leadership, Katsina State will continue to grow stronger, Insha Allah,” he added.

The event was attended by top government officials, including Katsina Local Government Chairman, Hon. Isah Miqdad, among others.

Gov Radda approves N305m allowance for 565 Katsina medical students

0

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved the release of ₦305,510,507.09 for the payment of allowances to 565 indigenous medical students studying within Nigeria and abroad.

The approval reflects Governor Radda’s strong commitment to human capital development and his administration’s continued investment in education and healthcare, which are two key pillars of his Building Your Future Agenda.

Confirming the development, the General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board (HSMB), Dr. Muhammad Nazir Shehu, explained that the payment covers both regular student allowances and special project support for final-year medical students.

According to Dr. Shehu, the gesture aims to ease the financial challenges faced by the students, enabling them to focus on their academic and clinical training without distractions. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with Governor Radda’s vision of producing competent, homegrown medical professionals who can transform healthcare delivery across Katsina State.

“This approval by His Excellency is more than a financial intervention. It is a deliberate investment in the future of healthcare in Katsina,” Dr. Shehu said. “We expect the beneficiaries to honour this trust by excelling in their studies and returning to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of our people.”

He noted that the Governor’s decision reflects a broader and long-term strategy to expand access to medical education, strengthen the local healthcare workforce, and ensure the sustainability of medical services throughout the state.

Since assuming office, Governor Radda has remained consistent in his commitment to improving the health sector. His administration has focused on enhancing healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to rural health services, and prioritizing the training and welfare of medical personnel and students.

This latest approval is part of several ongoing reforms aimed at building a resilient, efficient, and people-centred healthcare system in Katsina. The administration has undertaken initiatives such as the rehabilitation and upgrade of health facilities, the expansion of therapeutic nutrition centres, and the recruitment of skilled health professionals.

Through these reforms, the government seeks to strengthen healthcare delivery, promote quality medical education, and create opportunities for the youth to thrive.

The Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board expressed appreciation to Governor Radda for his continuous support and visionary leadership. The Board assured that the approved funds would be disbursed transparently and used strictly for the benefit of all eligible medical students.

The Board also urged the beneficiaries to maintain discipline, dedication, and responsibility in their studies. It emphasized that their success would serve as a reflection of the Governor’s confidence in the capacity of Katsina youth to drive transformation in the health sector.

Governor Radda begins distribution of 90000 bags of grains in Katsina

0

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to fighting hunger and malnutrition across the state, describing the challenge as both a moral and spiritual responsibility that must be confronted with compassion and collective action.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony of the distribution of 90,000 bags of grains to vulnerable households at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Governor Radda said the initiative was a direct response to the current economic hardship affecting families and the rising rate of malnutrition among children in the state.

“This event is not just about food. It is about compassion, duty, and responsibility,” the Governor stated. “It represents our shared determination to ensure that no family in Katsina goes to bed hungry, and that no child suffers from malnutrition or neglect.”

Governor Radda explained that the initiative followed the findings of a high-powered committee he constituted earlier this year to investigate the malnutrition situation in Katsina. The committee’s report, he said, revealed alarming trends that demanded urgent government intervention to safeguard the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable households.

He disclosed that beneficiaries of the current distribution were carefully identified using verified data from the Primary Health Care Development Agency, Community-Level Committees, and the Committee on Malnutrition to ensure that the grains reach those who genuinely need them.

The Governor stressed that while government continues to play its part, the responsibility to care for children and protect family wellbeing must also be shared by everyone.

“Caring for our children is not just a civic duty, it is a divine obligation,” he said. “When a child goes hungry or a mother cannot feed her baby, it is not merely an economic issue; it is a moral and spiritual failure.”

Governor Radda also announced several ongoing interventions aimed at combating malnutrition and strengthening healthcare delivery across Katsina State. He revealed that the state government is establishing 60 new Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) Centres in various parts of the state to provide timely nutritional support for children and mothers. In addition, nine existing malnutrition treatment centres located in the most affected local government areas are being upgraded to improve capacity and service delivery.

The Governor further disclosed that plans are underway to establish a Tom Brown and Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) factory in Katsina, which will locally produce nutritional supplements for malnourished children and nursing mothers.

According to him, these targeted interventions have already contributed to reducing the state’s malnutrition rate to between 8 and 10 percent. Governor Radda linked the grain distribution to his administration’s broader social protection and food security drive, explaining that it complements other empowerment initiatives such as the recent support for 4,000 irrigation farmers under the Katsina State Community Development Programme (CDP).

He commended the Committee on Malnutrition, traditional and religious leaders, as well as development partners including Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), for their continued dedication and collaboration in addressing the challenges of hunger and malnutrition.

“As we flag off this exercise, I urge everyone involved to handle the distribution with honesty, transparency, and sincerity. Let every bag of grain reach those who truly need it,” the Governor emphasized.

He concluded by reaffirming that governance, to his administration, remains a sacred trust between leaders and the people.

“Poverty is not just a number or a statistic; it is the story of real people, mothers, fathers, and children who deserve our attention, care, and compassion,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee on Malnutrition, Dr. Ahmad Musa Abdullahi, described the exercise as a reflection of Governor Radda’s compassion and foresight. He recalled that the committee, upon completing its assessment and submitting its report in September 2025, received immediate approval from the Governor for the current intervention.

“This effort is not just social welfare; it is an act of faith, compassion, and duty before Allah,” Dr. Ahmad said. “Each bag distributed today represents not only food, but also hope, mercy, and the people’s trust in Your Excellency’s leadership.”

He assured that the distribution will be carried out with fairness and transparency, with monitoring teams drawn from government agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, ALGON, and Zakkat and Waqf Committees overseeing the process.

The Coordinator of the Community Development Programme (CDP), Dr. Kamal, noted that the event coincided with the one-year anniversary of the CDP, which has touched thousands of lives through interventions in agriculture, food security, and poverty alleviation.

“Our mission has always been to take development directly to the grassroots,” he said. “We thank His Excellency for his vision and continuous guidance in ensuring that every initiative truly benefits the people.”

The Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahaya, described the initiative as a direct outcome of the Governor’s decisive leadership. He said the grains will support malnutrition treatment efforts across Stabilization and OTP Centres, while the state government continues to strengthen health and nutrition systems in collaboration with donor agencies.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chairman of Katsina Local Government, Hon. Isah Miqdad, thanked the Governor for choosing Katsina as the first location for the flag-off ceremony, assuring that every ward in the local government will receive its fair share of the grains.

Speaking on behalf of all 34 local government chairmen, the Deputy ALGON Chairman, Hon. Rabo Tambaya, commended Governor Radda’s people-centered leadership and assured full support to ensure transparency and success in the distribution process.

He noted that “this marks about the third phase of such humanitarian intervention under your administration, and we are proud to see the positive change it brings to our people. We remain committed to ensuring that this effort reaches every deserving household.”

The event was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers like representatives from Katsina and Daura Emirates, religious leaders, development partners including Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and beneficiaries from across the state.

JAMB uncovers 15,000 fake admission letters for NYSC

0

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, has revealed that the agency identified about 15,000 candidates who forged admission letters to qualify for participation in the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

Speaking on Monday at the 2025 Batch C pre-mobilisation workshop in Abuja, Oloyede confirmed that those involved are already being prosecuted for alleged forgery.

He disclosed that 17 Deputy Vice-Chancellors, several Deputy Registrars, and four JAMB staff are currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, over similar allegations.

“One day I ran to your predecessor because I couldn’t believe that 15,000 candidates forged admission letters,” Oloyede said.

“As I speak with you, some deputy registrars are being tried by ICPC. Some deputy vice-chancellors, not less than 17, including four JAMB staff, are in prison custody. We took them to ICPC,” he added.

He warned against unethical practices in the education sector and advised individuals to follow due process. “Those who want to go to jail should do so knowingly, not by accident. I want to advise you: follow the rules and you will have less problems. I suggest you follow the right path and you will see that most of the problems that are self-created by you will be eliminated,” the JAMB Registrar stated.

In his remarks, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, stressed the importance of safeguarding the credibility of the mobilisation process. He noted that the organisation continues to face challenges from forged credentials, multiple registrations, and identity theft by unqualified individuals.

“We all know that mobilising eligible Nigerian graduates for national service remains central to the NYSC’s mandate. As a matter of fact, mobilisation is the gateway to the service year and a vital link in preparing young Nigerian graduates for national integration and development. This key aspect of our operations can therefore not be allowed to suffer disrepute,” Nafiu said.

He highlighted that NYSC has built a reputation for transparency over the years. “Over the years, NYSC has earned public confidence for its transparent mobilisation process. We were able to do this in the analogue era and managed to transition that confidence to the digital era. For about 11 years now, we have continued to build a digital databank, and our mobilisation process is today almost fully digitised,” the DG explained.

Nafiu further stated that the introduction of the NYSC Integrated System, NIS, in 2014 improved efficiency but also exposed the scheme to more cyber threats. “We have strengthened our digital defences and continue to invest in protecting the Scheme’s online assets,” he said.

He also pointed out that the operations of unapproved study centres and ‘degree mills’ remain a serious issue. “Some of them operate under dubious affiliations with accredited institutions. Let me emphasise that the NYSC will continue to apply sanctions wherever such unethical practices are discovered,” he said.

The DG mentioned that low data management capacity among some mobilisation officers remains a challenge. “Some officers handling mobilisation data still need to improve their digital literacy. Effective data validation and system management require continuous training and retraining,” he added.

Director of Corps Mobilisation, Rachel Idaewor, commended the progress achieved in recent years through innovative strategies and improved collaboration but warned that challenges around data integrity still persist.

“The fraudulent uploading of unqualified persons continues to affect the credibility of our mobilisation process negatively,” she said.

Idaewor stressed the importance of data integrity for national service management. “The integrity of our data is not just a technical challenge; it has far-reaching implications for the personal and professional futures of our youth. Accurate, reliable data forms the backbone of any successful operational strategy, enabling us to effectively mobilise our youth for national service,” she stated.

The workshop called on all stakeholders to strengthen transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the mobilisation process to maintain public trust and national development.

FG nomination to train 20 Content Creators on New Tax Laws

0

The Federal Government has introduced a new initiative aimed at training 20 content creators to promote accurate and balanced information about Nigeria’s new tax reform laws.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, in a post shared on X on Monday. The initiative, tagged “Influencing for Good,” invites Nigerians to nominate content creators who are already helping to educate their audiences about the new tax reforms or those who they believe should take on the role.

According to Nigeriastartupact.ng, President Bola Tinubu had earlier signed into law four major tax reform bills in June. These include the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill. These reforms are part of efforts to modernize tax administration, improve revenue generation, and simplify compliance for citizens and businesses.

Oyedele explained that the top 20 creators with the highest nominations will be selected for a special training session designed to help them share factual and useful information about the new tax laws with their followers. He emphasized that the goal of the programme is to counter misinformation and promote trust in verified sources.

He wrote, “INFLUENCING FOR GOOD. Nominate a content creator who’s been educating their audience about Nigeria’s new tax reform laws or someone you’d like to see do so. We’ll be selecting the top 20 creators with the most nominations for a special training to help them share accurate, balanced, and useful tax information with their followers.”

Oyedele added, “Misinformation spreads fast, often to the author’s benefit but to the audience’s loss. Accurate information may travel slower, but it empowers everyone, and earns lasting trust.”

Nominations will close on November 9, 2025, and interested Nigerians can submit entries via the link https://forms.gle/6QMULojAA92GkJC47.

December 7, Update: The form link in this report has been updated.
