JAMB warns universities to stop forcing candidates to change courses

0

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised concern over reports that some institutions are using their internal portals to pressure or persuade qualified candidates, especially those ranked highly on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), to switch from their preferred programmes to less-subscribed ones.

According to JAMB, this unethical practice is aimed at creating space for the institutions’ preferred candidates to move up in the admission ranking order, which is a clear manipulation of the merit-based process that was established to promote transparency and fairness.

In a statement, the Board emphasized that “all admission processes in Nigeria are conducted exclusively through CAPS, the platform created to ensure accountability, transparency, and equal opportunity in admission placements.” It further warned that any change of programme or admission action done outside the JAMB CAPS is unauthorized, unethical, and could negatively affect the candidates involved.

JAMB described the actions of the institutions as deceptive and a deliberate attempt to shortchange candidates. “For institutions to engage in such backdoor maneuvers clearly indicates an intent to deceive and shortchange candidates, and such acts will not be condoned by the Board,” it said.

Candidates have therefore been strongly advised to ignore any invitation or request to change their programmes through institutional portals or other unofficial channels. The Board also stated that if any candidate is influenced by such persuasion and later effects a change of programme on CAPS, that action will be considered voluntary. “In such instances, JAMB will not be held responsible for the consequences of that decision,” the statement added.

Preliminary findings by JAMB revealed that a university in the South-West and another in Abuja have been involved in this practice. The Board said it has already taken appropriate regulatory steps to address these unethical acts and ensure that candidates’ interests are protected.

JAMB urged all candidates to remain vigilant and conduct all admission-related activities strictly through the official JAMB CAPS portal. The Board reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, equity, and transparency in the 2025 admission exercise and beyond.

What to write in YEIDEP application message box

0

Since the announcement of the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalization Programme (YEIDEP) batch B application, some applicants have been unsure what to write in the message box.

It is actually YEIDEP’s fault for not indicating any text requirement in that box. Moreover, what YEIDEP is using to accept applications is a simple contact form that websites typically create for visitors to use when contacting them.

That said, to make sure you are submitting a serious application, use the message box to describe why you want YEIDEP to approve the N50,000 to N500,000 grant for you.

But first, you have to understand what the programme is about. YEIDEP was earlier announced to be for farmers. However, clarifications have been made that it is not limited to farmers alone but is designed to involve young people in the broader agricultural value chain. The priority is to engage youths in agriculture, food business, food entrepreneurship, and agro-allied ventures. You don’t need special skills to grow corn, maize, and other crops.

YEIDEP Coordinator, Comrade Kennedy Iyere, also confirmed that the programme explores other key sectors like technology, entertainment, and the creative economy.

That said, for someone who is already a little into agriculture, you can write something like:

“I am applying for the YEIDEP grant to access the N50,000 to N500,000 funding to help me expand my farming income activities and improve my productivity. This support will help me invest in essential materials for the business (make sure you mention the type).

If approved, the grant will go into improving crop production, storage, and distribution. I am committed to using the grant responsibly.”

This is just to let you know what is expected. You can try to pitch the benefit for your business and Nigeria as a whole, but make it very brief.

NJFP 2.0 application for Host Organizations

0

The Nigerian Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) 2.0, a federal government initiative funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is now open for host organizations to participate in its second phase. The programme connects qualified young Nigerians with private and public sector institutions to enhance employability and strengthen workplace capacity.

According to the NJFP management, interested organizations can sign up through the official portal at www.njfp.ng. The team explained, “To sign up as a host organization, visit the NJFP portal and click on Apply as a host organization. Next, enter your organization details, CAC number, tax identification number, business address, and contact information. Ensure these match your official company records. Inaccurate information can delay approval.”

Applicants are advised to confirm their office location accurately during registration. “Turn on your device’s GPS to confirm your exact current location. You will need to allow location access in your browser. Once your device’s GPS matches the address provided, congratulations, your application is complete,” the team said.

After submission, applications are reviewed by the NJFP team. Approved organizations gain access to a personalized host dashboard, where they can “add departments, approach for car person details, and manage all fellowship activities in one convenient place.”

The matching and selection stage uses an artificial intelligence system that recommends qualified fellows based on each organization’s needs, discipline, skills, gender, or location. Organizations can review candidate profiles, invite them for interviews, and send offer letters through their dashboards.

Once fellows accept offers and resume duties, hosts are expected to validate start dates to activate placements. Through the platform, they can track attendance, monitor performance, and submit monthly feedback. The grievance redress mechanism is also available for quick and transparent issue resolution, ensuring seamless fellowship operations and improved institutional productivity.

The Bank of Agriculture (BOA) in partnership with Heifer International has opened applications for the National Agricultural Mechanization Program (NAMP). The initiative aims to boost Nigeria’s agricultural productivity by financing 2,000 tractors and 9,000 implements for youth and women agripreneurs across the country. “This program represents a renewed hope for Nigeria’s agricultural sector,” BOA said. “We are focused on empowering young agripreneurs and women by giving them the tools and training they need to drive mechanized farming.”

The lease conditions include a 3 to 5-year lease term, a 15 percent interest rate, and a 25 percent down payment. Participants will also benefit from preventive maintenance and technical support through established mechanization hubs, digital tracking using IoT technology, and a flexible repayment plan linked to usage and income generation.

Successful applicants will receive access to a tractor under a flexible lease-to-own model, digital visibility and tracking through a monitoring platform, and support from mechanization hubs for spare parts, repairs, and aftersales services. They will also gain business management training, including tractor operation, maintenance, and revenue management.

Eligible participants include women in mechanization, youth agripreneurs aged 18 to 35, and mechanization companies. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens or registered agribusinesses with access to at least 350 hectares of farmland or defined farmer clusters. They must demonstrate operational capacity, provide a business plan, and show proof of financial capability.

Mechanization companies must have access to a minimum of 500 hectares within a 50km radius, employ trained operators, and operate within agricultural zones. Applicants must provide CAC registration, TIN, and bank statements, and agree to digital tracking and monitoring.
