NJFP 2.0 to create 20000 jobs annually, 24000 over next 10 months

0

The Federal Government of Nigeria is targeting the creation of at least 20,000 jobs annually through the launch of the second phase of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP), aimed at connecting high-potential graduates with real-world work experience, training, and mentorship opportunities.

To spearhead the initiative in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, will on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in Abuja, flag off the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) 2.0 and declare open a High-Level Policy Dialogue on Job Creation with the theme, “From Skills to Jobs and Enterprises: Driving Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship in Key Economic Sectors.”

Ahead of the flag-off, the Vice President, on Monday, inaugurated the Project Steering Committee of the NJFP 2.0, charging members to make sure the programme is inclusive and that the opportunity reaches every part of the country.

The NJFP, a flagship initiative of the Federal Government coordinated by the Office of the Vice President, is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the European Union (EU).

Launched in 2022 to bridge the gap between skills, jobs, and enterprise, the programme has already empowered over 14,000 young Nigerians through 12-month paid fellowships that build experience, confidence, and lasting career opportunities.

Inaugurating the Project Steering Committee, Vice President Shettima said the goal of the NJFP is to bridge the transition gap between learning and earning for thousands of young graduates who have the required education but lack job opportunities.

He described the initiative as “a deliberate attempt to translate the nation’s demographic strength into productive economic power, demonstrating that when government provides structure, partnership, and purpose, young Nigerians rise to the occasion.”

According to him, the NJFP is a Nigerian programme shaped by national priorities and the nation’s sense of purpose. He told committee members to “deepen that ownership, strengthen coordination across our institutions, and ensure that NJFP remains accountable to the ambitions of this administration.”

Shettima urged the committee to focus on tangible results and inclusivity, saying, “As we deliberate today, I encourage us to think not in terms of targets or figures alone, but in terms of outcomes that matter; young people whose lives change because this system works as intended. We have an opportunity here to demonstrate what partnership done right can achieve: where government leads with clarity, partners contribute with confidence, and results speak for themselves.”

The Vice President added, “In scaling NJFP 2.0, inclusivity must remain at the heart of our design. Our young people are not a homogenous group; they live in different realities across regions, genders, and social backgrounds. We must ensure that this opportunity reaches every corner of the country — and that placements are tied to the sectors that will shape Nigeria’s future: agriculture, digital technology, renewable energy, manufacturing, and the creative industries.”

European Union (EU) Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Gautier Mignot, expressed confidence that the programme would transform the lives of young Nigerians. He said the EU is committed to supporting the Nigerian government to achieve the full potential of NJFP 2.0.

Similarly, the UNDP Resident Representative, Elsie Attafuah, said the NJFP 2.0 is part of a broader national and continental vision that the UNDP is proud to support. She noted that the target is to work across Nigeria to build an ecosystem that creates jobs and supports enterprise development.

Attafuah praised Vice President Shettima for driving the initiative, stating that what young Nigerians need most is “investment opportunities and an enabling ecosystem to make use of their skills and expertise.”

Earlier, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, explained that following the official flag-off of the NJFP 2.0, “the Vice President will also declare open the High-Level Policy Dialogue on Job Creation, themed: ‘From Skills to Jobs and Enterprises: Driving Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship in Key Economic Sectors.’”

Speaking during a press briefing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, ahead of the event scheduled to take place at the Old Banquet Hall, Hadejia said the dialogue will bring together Federal and State policymakers, private sector leaders, and development partners to discuss actionable strategies for expanding employment, supporting enterprise growth, and aligning youth skills with national priorities.

He said that building on the success of the first phase, the NJFP 2.0 has been redesigned to respond to current economic realities and lessons learned from the programme’s initial implementation.

“The target is to put structures in place to sustain the deployment of at least 20,000 fellows annually,” he explained.

According to him, the new phase of the initiative, NJFP 2.0, “will place a minimum of 24,000 fellows over the next 10 months, with the funding support of the EU,” and it directly supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which prioritises job creation, skills development, and youth empowerment as key pillars of Nigeria’s economic transformation.

“It shows that this administration is not only focused on policy, it is focused on impact. Through NJFP 2.0, we are demonstrating how government programmes can translate into real opportunities for decent work and enterprise creation for young Nigerians,” he added.

Senator Hadejia explained that the Federal Government plans to create two clear pathways for every fellow, a pathway to employment through extended professional placements, and a pathway to entrepreneurship through business mentorship and enterprise support.

He said the idea is to ensure that “every fellow is empowered to either secure meaningful employment or launch a viable business in strategic sectors of the economy at the end of the fellowship.”

Hadejia noted that under the Tinubu administration, the NJFP is “a bold and practical response to the aspirations of young Nigerians — a generation of problem-solvers and innovators who only need opportunity to thrive.”

He further emphasised that “the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme is one of several opportunities created by the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), a platform to turn skills into jobs, ideas into enterprises, and hope into results.”

Gov Soludo begins one-youth-two-skills plus disbursement in Awka North, South

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has begun the disbursement of empowerment funds to participants in the One-Youth-Two-Skills Plus scheme in Awka North and Awka South Local Government Areas of Anambra State. The initiative aims to support young entrepreneurs and strengthen small businesses across the state.

In Awka North LGA, the beneficiaries received their empowerment funds at an event held in Achalla, supervised by the Managing Director of the Anambra State Social and Civic Reformation Office, Mr. Chuka Nnabuife. He described the disbursement as “a continuation of Governor Soludo’s vision to make Anambra a hub of productive youth innovation and enterprise.”

The exercise in Awka South LGA was coordinated by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Mr. Emeka Omata. He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the funds, adding that “the One-Youth-Two-Skills Plus programme is designed to help young people turn their training into viable businesses that contribute to the economy.”

Among the beneficiaries were Mrs. Nkechi Menkiti, who was trained in bakery and confectionery and received N380,000; Nkemjika Udegbunam, trained in rice farming and processing, who got N350,000; and Ejike Olutum, also trained in rice farming and processing, who received N350,000.

In Awka South, other recipients included Chimaoge Enekwechi from Nise, Antonia Onyemobi from Imo State, and Chisom Onyekwuba. They have successfully used their acquired skills to establish businesses that now create jobs and wealth for other indigenes.

The disbursement follows the governor’s earlier approval of a N3.5 billion startup grant for more than 8,300 beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme, announced during their graduation ceremony last month.

Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghamba, praised the governor for “actualising a project that transforms lives.” The Chairman of the scheme, Professor Chinedu Onyeizugbe, confirmed a 48 percent increase in participation, describing the initiative as “a model for scholars and Anambra youths.”

Support Our Troops foundation begin empowerment for military families

0

The Support Our Troops (SOT) Foundation has launched its annual empowerment programme to improve the welfare, dignity, and economic resilience of military families across Nigeria. The one-year initiative, unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja, targets widows, orphans, wounded soldiers, deployed personnel, and retired service members.

The programme aims to empower at least 100 beneficiaries nationwide by October 2026, with a projection that 70 percent of participants will achieve sustainable income through vocational training, mentorship, and post-programme support. The initiative is positioned as part of ongoing efforts to boost military family welfare and social development in Nigeria.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Coordinating Officer, Ojinika Mba-Kalu, described the initiative as “a renewed call to national responsibility and a show of gratitude to our armed forces.” She emphasized the foundation’s commitment to extending assistance to a wider range of beneficiaries.

“We are going to extend our support to not just the widows, but also to the deployed troops, the wounded, the orphans, and retired soldiers. That is our priority,” she said.

The empowerment drive will be implemented in phases, starting with a transparent selection process conducted in partnership with key military associations. Training for the first cohort is expected to begin early next year, focusing on vocational skills, entrepreneurship, and business education. Participants will also receive financial support and small business grants to aid their post-training stability.

A second phase of the empowerment programme is scheduled for mid-2026, while final disbursements and post-programme evaluations are expected by September 2026. The foundation stated that the project aims to promote self-reliance, social inclusion, and national unity, especially among families that have borne the burden of military service.

“Our vision is to lift the spirits of Nigerian military personnel and their families. Whether it’s widows of fallen heroes or retired officers, they all matter to us,” Mba-Kalu added.

Director of the Foundation, Tokumbo Oladende, said the SOT Foundation has consistently collaborated with the Ministry of Defence and other agencies to support barracks communities. He noted that the foundation’s work extends beyond empowerment, with past interventions including care packs, school supplies, medical aid, and learning equipment.

“This is more than financial aid. It’s about rebuilding lives and reminding our troops’ families that they’re not forgotten,” Oladende stated.

In a goodwill message, Auwal Musa Ibrahim (Rafsanjani), Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), described the SOT Foundation’s effort as a “transformative and timely intervention.” He called it a significant contribution to honoring and uplifting military families who continue to bear the weight of national service.

Rafsanjani, who was unavoidably absent from the event, commended the foundation for its “deep commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of service members are matched with sustainable support.”

“This initiative highlights the steadfast dedication of its organizers to uplift our courageous military personnel—especially wounded service members, retired officers, and the widows or next of kin of our fallen heroes,” he said.

He also urged government agencies, civil society groups, and the private sector to support the military community through training, emergency assistance, and livelihood programmes aimed at helping long-term reintegration.

“We must continue to act—through policy, partnership, and programmes—to ensure they are not left behind,” Rafsanjani added.

The SOT Foundation’s empowerment programme is expected to attract national attention as a model for social responsibility and veteran care, reinforcing a growing movement to ensure that no military family is left behind.

“At programme completion, organisations may retain fellows, or they may start businesses that create more employment opportunities,” the deputy chief of staff stated.
