The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the opening of its registration and accreditation process for interested Cyber Café Operators (CBOs) across Nigeria. The management said the move aims to promote transparency and orderliness in the NYSC online registration system while strengthening its partnership with technology service providers.

According to the NYSC, accredited Cyber Café Operators will receive periodic training to help them understand new updates on the NYSC Integrated System (NIS) platform. The Scheme explained that this initiative is designed to “bring sanity to the NYSC online registration process” and to “weed out quacks among Cyber Café operators.”

The objectives of the accreditation include promoting error-free online registration for prospective corps members, encouraging partnership between NYSC and CBOs, and ensuring proper monitoring of operators through a national database.

Fees for participation include an Expression-of-Interest fee of N5,000, a New Registration fee of N20,000, and an Annual Renewal fee of N18,000. The NYSC warned that Cyber Café Operators must not charge more than N3,000 for services rendered to prospective corps members, whether Nigerian or foreign-trained.

The Scheme listed benefits such as new business opportunities, access to NYSC technical support, and periodic training sessions. It added that partnership with NYSC will help operators expand their digital service capacity.

Interested Cyber Café Operators are required to register on the NYSC CBO portal Link and upload all necessary documents. Successful applicants will be issued a provisional registration, pending inspection and verification of their premises.

The NYSC stated that accredited operators will receive official certificates after signing the Cyber Café Operators Agreement, followed by regular monitoring to ensure compliance with the Scheme’s standards.

Lagos trade fair to help vendors reach ₦5bn sales in October 2025

The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in partnership with the entrepreneurial community Naija Brand Chick, has announced the mainland edition of the Lagos Tourism Naija Brand Chick Trade Fair. The event follows the success of the Island edition held in April, which recorded over ₦1 billion in sales. The second leg is scheduled to take place from October 24 to 26, 2025, at the Whitestone Event Centre, Ikeja.

Speaking on the upcoming edition, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, said the fair reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to building a people-driven creative economy that connects innovation, trade, and culture across the state’s five divisions. He noted that the initiative aligns with Lagos’ vision of promoting commerce and tourism while strengthening small businesses.

Aregbe explained that the event is part of the ongoing “101 Days in Lagos” Tourism and Culture Calendar, a series of entertainment-led activities aimed at boosting commerce, tourism, and citizen engagement across the state. He said, “We are deliberately leveraging entertainment to drive trade, inspired by the spirit of old Lagos, when markets came alive with music, performances, and community energy. Our goal this time is to empower between 100 and 150 vendors and help them achieve ₦5 billion in cumulative sales within three days. It’s ambitious, but we’ve put in the work to make it achievable.”

He further stated that months of strategic planning, vendor selection, and marketing coordination have gone into preparing for the fair, assuring exhibitors of seamless logistics, enhanced visibility, and full support. “Our vendors have nothing to worry about except bringing their A-game. The state, in collaboration with Naija Brand Chick, has built the framework, they only need to complement our efforts with creativity and strong marketing. The Lagos Tourism NBC Trade Fair is a movement where entertainment powers commerce, and Lagos creativity fuels economic growth,” he added.

Aregbe also assured Lagosians that prices at the fair would remain affordable, emphasizing that the essence of the initiative goes beyond sales. According to him, “It is about access, inclusivity, and shared prosperity.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Naija Brand Chick, Mrs. Nelly Agbogu, commended the Lagos State Government for co-hosting two editions of its SME-focused initiative within a year, describing it as a model for public–private collaboration in Nigeria. “This initiative is a game-changer that has empowered countless entrepreneurs, boosted visibility for small businesses, and proven that Lagos is intentional about building a thriving SME ecosystem. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and excited to deepen this partnership to unlock even greater opportunities for entrepreneurs. Thanks to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Mr. Idris Aregbe for all they do for Lagos businesses,” Agbogu said.

The Lagos Tourism Naija Brand Chick Trade Fair is expected to attract thousands of visitors, create hundreds of temporary jobs, and serve as a networking hub for entrepreneurs, investors, and small businesses across the state.

Over 1.3 million apply for TVET program, 960000 screened

0

Nigeria’s drive to expand vocational training has gathered strong momentum as more than 1.3 million young Nigerians have applied for enrollment in the federal government’s new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program. The initiative, led by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), aims to equip the country’s youth with practical, job-ready skills to meet labor market demands.

Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje, Executive Secretary of NBTE, disclosed the figures in an interview with RFI Hausa Radio, noting the massive interest the scheme has generated across the country. “So far, about 1.3 million youth have applied, and 960,000 have been screened,” Bugaje said. “Just last week, the Minister of Education launched training for the first batch of 58,000. You might say this is a small number, but it’s only the beginning.”

According to him, the program will continue to expand as the implementation progresses. He explained that the TVET program, launched by the Ministry of Education, focuses on providing technical and vocational training that prepares Nigerian youth for self-reliance and entrepreneurship. “Nigeria is the country with the largest youth population in the world,” Bugaje stated. “If you look at the numbers, about 70% of Nigerians are under the age of 30. No other country has such a demographic.”

Bugaje highlighted the need to shift from the traditional focus on academic qualifications toward more skill-based education. He argued that Nigeria’s education system has long conditioned students to depend on government jobs that are no longer sufficient. “The problem with formal (Western) education is that it conditions your mind to believe you must get a government job,” he said. “But the government does not have enough jobs for everyone. Youth must be taught skills that help them rely on themselves.”

He added that vocational learning goes beyond classrooms, pointing to informal training spaces such as local workshops and artisan hubs as vital contributors to economic growth. “There are community-based schools everywhere, such as those in Panteka and roadside automobile workshops,” Bugaje explained. “These are also centers for vocational learning. This is a crucial pillar for economic development and needs to be supported.”

Bugaje also revealed that other ministries are complementing the Education Ministry’s efforts through specialized programs. He said the Ministry of Communications has introduced the MTT initiative to train three million youth in digital skills, including content creation and artificial intelligence. In addition, the Ministry of Works has launched NASAP to train one million youth in construction-related trades like masonry, carpentry, tiling, and plaster of Paris (POP).

“Right now in Nigeria, artisans from Benin and Togo are the ones doing our POP work, even in Abuja which is shameful,” Bugaje noted. “Meanwhile, our youth are idle, roaming neighborhoods with no jobs.”

He said while the National Education Loan Fund (NELFund) is managing funding and certification processes, NBTE is committed to monitoring centers and ensuring credible training and valid certifications.

The Federal Government has announced plans to develop a framework that will strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders in delivering humanitarian services across Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Tanko Sununu, disclosed this during the 2026 Sectorial Retreat on the Performance Management System held in Niger State. He said the move would help boost humanitarian interventions and support ongoing efforts in poverty reduction across the country.

Dr. Sununu explained that the proposed transparency and accountability framework would help the ministry establish best practices and improve its image both locally and internationally. He noted that the retreat aimed to create a strong foundation for the newly approved National Council on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

“The Ministry will adopt the three pillars of the new performance culture, which include clarity of purpose,” he said. “I urge all participants to contribute meaningfully to the progress of this programme.”

He added that the ministry was transitioning from vague job descriptions to clearly defined key performance indicators. “Our new Performance Management System is not an administrative burden; it is a strategic tool,” Dr. Sununu stated. “It is designed to create a direct line of sight between the Ministry’s high-level objectives—the 8-Point Agenda of the President—and our Ministry’s specific mandate and the daily tasks of every Director, Unit, and staff member.”

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Yakubu Kofar Mata, said the retreat was a platform to hold critical discussions, share ideas, and build capacity for a more robust system that could track progress and measure outcomes effectively.

Mr. Kofar Mata emphasized that the PMS would help align the Ministry’s work with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s goals, describing it as a standard for evaluating performance and setting benchmarks for the civil service.
