The Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, has received Senator Aliyu Wakili Boya, Member representing Fufore/Song Federal Constituency of Adamawa State in the House of Representatives.

During the visit, Hon. Barr. Aliyu Wakili Boya highlighted Adamawa’s rapid infrastructural growth, noting newly constructed roads and expanding economic opportunities across the state. He pointed out the importance of building an efficient and sustainable transportation system to support these developments. The lawmaker disclosed plans to introduce three to five containers of electric motorcycles into Adamawa, while stressing the need for training opportunities that will prepare young people to embrace the evolving electric mobility sector. According to him, “The state government is fully backing this initiative to create jobs and drive clean transportation.”

Responding, the NADDC Director General commended the initiative and assured of the Council’s readiness to collaborate. Mr. Osanipin recalled previous interventions by NADDC in the state, which included heavy-duty training for 50 participants and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle maintenance training to strengthen Adamawa’s transport system.

He also referenced the Adamawa State Governor’s earlier commitment to sponsor the training of 1,000 artisans in automotive skills. “The Council has put structures in place and looks forward to executing the program before the end of the year, with possible extension into early 2026 if required,” Osanipin said.

On the subject of electric mobility, the DG stressed the need for supportive infrastructure. He explained that while electric vehicles require more complex charging structures, motorcycles are easier to adapt with charging and swapping systems. He stated this approach could accelerate the adoption of electric motorcycles in Adamawa. NADDC, according to him, is ready to partner with the state to design infrastructure in line with Senator Boya’s initiative.

The Council applauded the lawmaker’s visit and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and empowering youths through automotive development in Adamawa State.

Ex-legislative aide jailed 8 years over N120.5m job scam

0

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, September 22, 2025, secured the conviction and sentencing of a former legislative aide and banker, Mr. Goni Yilkan, for offences bordering on obtaining by false pretence to the tune of N120.5 million. The judgment was delivered by Justice F. E. Messiri of the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Jabi, Abuja.

Yilkan, who hails from Nguru in Yobe State, was found guilty on a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence. The offence is contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act. He was consequently sentenced to eight years imprisonment without an option of fine.

The convict was arraigned alongside one Mohammed Adamu in October 2023, following investigations by the EFCC into a petition of fraud. According to the petitioner, Mrs. Hindatu Bello, Yilkan deceived her between 2020 and 2021 into believing that he could secure employment slots in key government agencies, including the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). On this basis, Bello collected money from over 60 jobseekers amounting to N120,580,550, which she allegedly remitted to Yilkan.

However, the jobs never materialised, leading Bello to petition the EFCC. One of the charges filed against Yilkan read: “That you, Mohammed Goni Yilkan, Mohammed Adamu and others at large between 3rd January 2020 and December 2021 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N120,580,550 from Mrs. Hindatu Bello under the false pretence that you had the capacity to secure jobs for her candidates in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria which pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.”

During the trial, the prosecution, led by Cosmas Ugwu, called six witnesses and tendered several documents in evidence. The defence, represented by J. A. Oguche, called two witnesses, including Yilkan himself.

In delivering judgment, Justice Messiri held that the EFCC had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. He convicted Yilkan but discharged and acquitted his co-defendant, Mohammed Adamu. “The evidence presented by the prosecution is sufficient and consistent,” the judge said, before sentencing Yilkan to eight years in prison without an option of fine.

According to the court, Yilkan’s conviction marked the end of a case that began when he collected over N120.5 million from desperate jobseekers on the false promise of employment slots. The money was neither refunded nor did the jobs materialise, sealing his journey to the Correctional Centre.

Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has announced that trainees under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative will begin training after the ongoing verification exercise is completed.

She explained that the verification of learners is in progress and will be finalised soon to enable the commencement of training across centres.

According to her, over one million Nigerians have already been enrolled, and we’ve been told this is for Masters 6 and 12 programmes.

Trainees should note that the Federal Government is not rushing the exercise because it is designed to meet global standards. The focus is to ensure that all trainees acquire employable skills that meet labour market requirements, rather than attend training and return home without opportunities.

At a Capacity-Building Workshop for TVET stakeholders held in Kano, the Regional Coordinator of the Better Education for Africa’s Rise (BEAR) III Programme, Mr Manish Josh, explained that the initiative is focused on aligning skills with current industry demands. The programme also seeks to provide the tools needed to align TVET programmes with labour market needs.

FG to upgrade Nigerian artisans to international standards

The Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Oluwatoyin Ogun, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to scale up the skills and recognition of Nigerian artisans to international standards through strategic partnerships.

Ogun made this known at the Nigerian Artisans and Technicians Exhibition and Fair held on Tuesday in Abuja. The event, themed “Empowering Nigerian Artisans and Technicians for Economic Development,” brought together artisans from across the country.

He explained that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is determined to work with artisans across Nigeria to formalise and upgrade their trades to global standards.

“Now that you are remembered by this administration, this administration is set to make your informal setting, the unorganised artisanry, the unorganised trade, formal and organised. This government is ready to work with artisans,” Ogun said.

The ITF boss noted that Nigerian artisans have faced limited access to training over the years but assured that President Tinubu has “taken the bull by the horns” by directing the Fund to scale up their skills to meet international benchmarks.

“In addition to the president, his government also consists of the Bank of Industry, and ITF is also ready, getting ready with the business incubation, where businesses will be incubated by artisans. It is one of the outcomes of our super programme,” he added.

According to him, the collaboration will provide not only training but also create incubation centres that will enable artisans to build sustainable businesses capable of competing globally.

Also speaking at the event, the Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN) and former Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Sanusi Rikiji, revealed that Nigeria will host 75 countries during the intra-African trade fair scheduled for 2026.

In his welcome address, Rikiji commended artisans and technicians for their role in nation-building. “This second Artisans and Technician Exhibition here tonight has made Abuja a one-stop shop to our esteemed leaders and distinguished guests. Trade is a lifeline of every nation and is similar to the artery in the human body,” he said.

Rikiji stressed that artisans and technicians account for about 80 per cent of Nigeria’s workforce and described them as critical to sustaining the nearly 230 million consumer-based economy.

“I take great pride in identifying with these patriots as they backstop the Nigerian economy. I specifically commend the leadership for its unity of purpose and for maintaining a broad voice and a common direction at all times,” Rikiji added.

He further urged artisans and technicians to mentor the younger generation to ensure continuity and sustainability of skills in the sector. According to him, exhibitions remain important platforms to showcase Nigeria’s cultural heritage and to promote national development.

“Nigeria is a land of great resources, human capital, and many other strengths. I therefore urge us to remain united so that collectively we can achieve the agenda of the government,” he said.
