Sokoto civil service recruitment claims circulate amid Governor’s directive

0

September 19, 2025 – There are circulating reports of Sokoto State civil service recruitment ongoing on social media. However, while the state governor, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, on September 8, 2025, directed the employment of youths, there is currently no official announcement from Sokoto Civil Service.

The circulating claims state that Governor Aliyu Sokoto (FCNA) has directed the recruitment of youths who are graduates of Degree, NCE, or HND programs but are not currently employed in government service.

Nigeriastartupact.ng earlier reported that the Governor explained that the decision was necessary to provide opportunities for young people and strengthen public service delivery. In his words, “the recruitment drive is to create jobs for youths and improve government operations across the state.”

The claims further state that about 3,000 people will be recruited. Earlier, the governor set up a committee to oversee the recruitment process and recommend suitable candidates for the available positions. The committee was also urged to submit its report within one month to ensure the exercise is transparent and credible.

From the circulating claims, all qualified youths are required to report to their Local Government Chairman’s office with their academic certificates for proper verification. This registration exercise will last for only 20 days, therefore, youths are advised to act quickly so they don’t miss the opportunity.

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to showcasing the state as a hub of resilience, opportunity, and enterprise, with global attention set to focus on its waterways as the city hosts the E1 Lagos GP from October 3 to 5 in Victoria Island.

Speaking at the E1 Lagos GP Immersion Session, held at the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) Boat Jetty at Falomo in Ikoyi, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, described Lagos as a city of strength and innovation. He explained that Lagos continues to reinvent itself and attract international recognition.

He noted that the upcoming E1 Lagos GP is not just another sporting event but a scientific demonstration of precision, accuracy, and sustainability. According to him, the excitement already building around the event highlights Lagos’ creativity and potential. Omotoso urged residents to embrace the opportunities the water-based sporting event would bring.

“This is more than putting race boats on the water. Everything about it requires science, careful planning, and accuracy. It shows that it is serious business for Lagos. It is about sustainability, creativity, and responsibility. Lagos is indeed the city of now and the city of the future,” he said.

The commissioner also emphasised the importance of environmental protection. He said, “The environment is the only thing we can leave behind for the generations that are coming after us. We must not abuse it, and we must not mess it up. Our lagoons must remain clean, because visitors are coming, and they must see that Lagos values sustainability.”

Also speaking at the session, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr Sam Egube, stressed the global significance of the E1 Lagos GP. He described Lagos as Africa’s hub for technology, culture, and enterprise, adding that the event provides an opportunity to demonstrate the city’s capacity to host world-class experiences.

Egube noted that beyond the race, Lagos is positioning itself as a destination for innovation and cultural diplomacy. He said the competition reflects the forward-looking vision of the state and its commitment to strengthening international partnerships.

The General Manager of LASWA, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, assured participants that the government is putting comprehensive measures in place to guarantee smooth operations during the event. He explained that the Nigerian Navy, Marine Police, and other security agencies have been fully mobilised to ensure safety on and around the waterways.

Emmanuel further revealed that shakedown sessions would precede the main competition. He said the sessions would allow competitors to test the waters and fine-tune their electric race boats ahead of the event.

Corporate partners including First Bank of Nigeria and Tolaram Group expressed strong support for the project. They described the E1 Lagos GP as a historic first for Africa, noting that it would place Lagos firmly on the global sporting and innovation map. According to them, they are proud to be part of what they see as a groundbreaking journey that will benefit not only Lagos but the entire continent.

The organisers explained that the E1 Lagos GP goes beyond electric boats racing across the lagoon. It represents Lagos’ enduring spirit of resilience, sustainability, and enterprise. Seven races have been scheduled for the event, with winners expected to earn 25 points for first place, 15 points for second, and 10 points for third. The points system is designed to intensify competition and keep spectators fully engaged.

For residents and fans unable to be on the water, several viewing centres will provide live coverage of the event. These include the Boat Club Opening Point of Contact, Wing Jetty, Mikano Building Viewing Centre, and the LASWA headquarters. The centres will enable Lagosians to follow the excitement in real time and be part of an event that is attracting global attention.

NSUK VC urges MSMEs to embrace innovation

0

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, innovation, and sustainability in driving the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, represented by the Head of Department, Business Administration, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Abdullahi, made this known on Thursday, 18th September 2025, while delivering a goodwill message at the Nasarawa State Business Empowerment Summit held in Lafia.

The summit, themed “Entrepreneurship, Financial Inclusion, Innovation, and Sustainable Business Growth among MSMEs in Nasarawa,” gathered stakeholders from government, academia, and the private sector to discuss strategies for strengthening the state’s business ecosystem.

In her remarks, Professor Liman described entrepreneurship as “the backbone of the economy,” highlighting its role in driving innovation, creating jobs, and fostering community development. She noted that empowering MSMEs is vital for transforming not only Nasarawa’s economy but also Nigeria’s overall development outlook.

Speaking on financial inclusion, she pointed out the need for equitable access to financial services as a way of unlocking the potential of entrepreneurs. She encouraged business owners to consider non-conventional funding options such as crowdfunding, supplier credit, operating leases, strategic partnerships, and leaseback arrangements, which can provide flexible financing with little or no interest.

On the role of innovation, the Vice-Chancellor urged entrepreneurs to adopt emerging technologies, e-commerce platforms, automation, and other digital solutions to remain competitive in today’s global economy. She explained that digital transformation is no longer optional but a necessity for MSMEs to grow.

Professor Liman further stressed the importance of sustainable business practices, urging entrepreneurs to align profitability with social and environmental responsibility. According to her, “by integrating sustainability into business operations, we ensure that future generations inherit not just a thriving economy but also a healthier planet and equitable society.”

She called for collaboration among government, academia, and the business community to build a strong ecosystem that supports MSMEs, nurtures innovation, and promotes inclusive growth.

Ogun economy rises to N16tr as Mac Group commits $2.5bn

0

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced that the state’s economy has grown fourfold in the past six years, rising from N3.5 trillion to N16 trillion. The disclosure came as the state secured an investment pledge valued between $1.8 billion and $2.5 billion from MAG Group.

The governor made this known during a meeting with the Strategic Advisor of MAG Group, Fayad Fayad, and the Public Relations and Communication Officer, Hassan Fayad, who visited him at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Speaking on the transformation of Ogun State’s economy, Abiodun highlighted the role of improved infrastructure, provision of basic amenities, and tourism development. He explained that the state’s landmark tourist site, Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, now generates about N20 million weekly after its renovation, a sharp contrast to the same amount it used to earn in an entire year before the upgrade.

He said: “We are one of the two best-performing states in Nigeria. We are the fastest-growing economy in the country. Our economy, between 2019 and 2025, has quadrupled from N3.5 trillion to N16 trillion.”

The governor noted that the increased patronage at Olumo Rock is proof that well-maintained tourist sites could serve as alternative hubs for relaxation while boosting government revenue. He further commended MAG Group for choosing Ogun State for such a significant investment, particularly in the areas of tourism, hospitality, and recreation.

“I don’t have any doubt about the competitive advantage of this state. All the ingredients that you need for the patronage of a large leisure facility are here, and I think that you have not made any error in coming as we provide the best option for investments,” Abiodun said.

The governor also stressed that Ogun State is strategically positioned as an investment destination due to its land mass, strong infrastructure, and human capital, adding that the state government will continue to provide a conducive business environment to attract local and international investors.

In his remarks, MAG Group’s Strategic Adviser, Fayad Fayad, said the organization was proud to partner with Ogun State, describing the investment as one of the biggest projects for hospitality and entertainment in Africa. He confirmed that the investment, ranging from $1.8 billion to $2.5 billion, will include a Disneyland resort, the first of its kind in Africa.

“We are very happy to be here today in Ogun State; we are very proud to initiate this project. This is definitely the first project, and it is between the range of $1.8 billion to $2.5 billion. Very soon, you will hear very good news,” Fayad said.

He added: “There is an initiative that we presented to His Excellency, which is about having a Disneyland resort within Ogun State; it will be the first in Africa. It is a huge project for entertainment and tourism. There will be parks, entertainment, hotels, and water parks.”

Fayad expressed confidence in the leadership of the state and the pace of economic growth. He stated: “We have a lot of projects to do together; we can see the vision, we can see the leadership, and we can see the growth of the economy. Hopefully, we will work side by side with Ogun State, and the sky is the limit.”

FG pledges funding support for South-South youths in agriculture

0

The Federal Government has pledged to provide funding support to youths in the South-South region to boost their access to agribusiness opportunities and improve food security.

The South-South Coordinator of the Nigerian Agribusiness and Agro-Industry Development Initiative (NAADI), Mr Howard Usen, made this known during the inauguration of the South-South Youth in Agriculture, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, held in Uyo on Friday.

Usen described the inauguration as a turning point in youth participation in agriculture across the region, stressing that many associations often struggle to attract meaningful funding due to a lack of structure and proper governance frameworks.

He explained that NAADI, in partnership with the Federation of Agricultural Communities of Nigeria, would assist the newly inaugurated body in developing covenants and operational standards that meet global best practices.

“If you don’t have structure and good covenants, most organisations will not fund you. But once these structures are in place, it becomes easier for organisations and agencies to support and invest in you. We are committed to helping this body establish these standards,” Usen stated.

According to him, NAADI will also work with relevant expos and institutions to provide training for executives of the association across all local government areas of Akwa Ibom State. He said the training would cover cooperative management, financial accountability, and the development of templates aligned with United Nations Industrial Development Organisation standards.

“With these minimum standards, accessing funding from government agencies, development partners, and international organisations will no longer be difficult,” he added.

In a goodwill message, the Head of Development Finance at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Uyo branch, Mr Obinna Inyiama, assured that the apex bank remained committed to supporting agriculture projects, especially those driven by youths.

He pointed to the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme as one of the key intervention programmes through which farmers can access loans of up to N1 million from Microfinance Banks. He explained that the CBN would guarantee 75 per cent of the loan value in the event of default, thereby reducing the risks for financial institutions lending to young farmers.

“The facility can last up to one year, and beneficiaries who meet repayment obligations can reapply. With just 40 per cent of the interest amount paid by CBN, even as farmers can roll over into another cycle,” Inyiama explained, while urging youths to take advantage of the opportunity.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Offiong Offor, also commended the resilience of the Youth in Agriculture programme. She recalled that Akwa Ibom youths had consistently excelled in national competitions with record cassava yields and innovative farming practices.

Offor assured that the ministry would continue to provide improved seedlings and technical support in line with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda on food security. She further advised the leadership of the youth body to submit requests early enough to ensure timely delivery of inputs and resources.

The event featured the formal inauguration of the Akwa Ibom State chapter executives, with Mr Sylvester Sunday emerging as chairman. He pledged to mobilise more young people across the state to embrace agriculture as a sustainable pathway to prosperity.

Stakeholders at the event noted that the inauguration signaled a new era of institutional support for South-South youths in agriculture, raising hopes for better access to credit, capacity-building initiatives, and enhanced productivity.

Agriculture remains one of Nigeria’s most critical economic drivers, employing over 35 per cent of the labour force and contributing significantly to food security and non-oil revenue.

Despite this, many young people in the South-South have continued to face barriers such as limited access to credit facilities, inadequate modern training, and lack of structured support systems required to fully explore opportunities in agribusiness.

The Nigerian Agribusiness and Agro-Industry Development Initiative was set up to help close this gap by creating institutional frameworks that strengthen youth participation in agriculture, promote financial inclusion, and attract investment into the sector.

Kano State releases N500m for agriculture

0

Kano State has approved the release of N500 million as counterpart funding for the Sustainable Power and Irrigation Programme, a move aimed at boosting food security, resilience, and agricultural productivity.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Dannuma Mahmud, who explained that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and economic growth.

Dr. Mahmud noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has demonstrated this commitment through direct actions, including the recruitment of 1,038 agricultural and agriculture-related extension workers. According to him, these steps align with the government’s vision of creating an enabling environment for both local and foreign investments while also promoting sustainable agriculture and improving the livelihoods of residents across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Bashir Sunusi, made the announcement during a programme titled “Sensitisation Workshop on the Establishment of Multi-Stakeholders Agriculture Forum (MAF) for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Programme” held in Kano.

Dr. Sunusi described the SAPZ programme as a transformative approach that is designed to unlock the full potential of agriculture by promoting value addition, attracting investments, creating jobs, and strengthening linkages across the agricultural value chain.

At the same event, Dr. (Mrs.) Olubunmi Ademola Iluromi from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security praised the participants for taking a major step toward establishing the Multi-Stakeholders Agribusiness Forum (MAF).

She pointed out that the forum is a vital component of the SAPZ Programme, bringing together various stakeholders such as policymakers, private sector leaders, rural farmers, and financial institutions to drive agricultural and industrial growth.

She said, “The Multi-Stakeholder Agribusiness Forum in Kano State is a bold and visionary step that signals a new era of coordinated action. Here, government, the private sector, civil society, and development partners converge to unlock agriculture’s full potential, not just as a source of livelihood, but as a driver of industrialisation, innovation, and economic resilience.”

In his speech, the national coordinator of the SAPZ, Dr. Kabir Yusuf, said the state is at a critical turning point. “We are at a pivotal moment for Kano’s agricultural sector. For decades, our state has been recognised as a hub of commerce and agriculture, but we have yet to fully unlock its potential,” he stated.

Represented by Abel Ameh, the Rural Institutions Development Specialist for the SAPZ programme, Dr. Yusuf stressed the need for building not just infrastructure but also a new agricultural economy that is modern, inclusive, and sustainable.

Earlier, the state coordinator for SAPZ, Alhaji Aminu Ilyasu, highlighted the importance of the new forum. “This forum is the cornerstone of our strategy. It is the platform that will bring together all of us here, policymakers, investors, development partners, and most importantly, our farmers—to work as one,” he said.

He added, “The MAF will serve as our collective brain, where we can solve problems, share insights, and co-create solutions. We are committed to breaking down silos and building bridges of cooperation. We recognise that no single entity can achieve this transformation alone. It requires a unified effort from the government for policy, the private sector for investment, and our rural institutions for on-the-ground implementation.”

South East development commission funds to be released soon

0

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has disclosed that the release of funds for the South East Development Commission (SEDC) has been delayed but will be done soon.

Kalu made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm, where he spoke on the progress made so far regarding the commission.

“Where we are is implementation, release of funds, which is a general problem,” Kalu said. “The fund is going to come when others are coming, and in a few days, a few weeks, the agency will have funds to begin to activate the dreams of the region.”

According to him, the SEDC was created to address what he described as “Reconstruction, Reintegration and Reconciliation” which were promised to the South East after the civil war but were never fully carried out.

“You know, Southeast passed through a civil war. Even though the history books are no longer talking much about it, which is not right because we have to learn from history, for it does not repeat itself,” he stated.

Kalu explained that the failure to implement the three Rs deepened bitterness in the region for decades, making the commission an essential tool for healing and development.

He also revealed that the National Assembly passed the SEDC bill with bipartisan support, and the president signed it into law because of his commitment to the growth of the South East.

The Deputy Speaker highlighted that the commission would focus on sectors such as agriculture, power, infrastructure, technology, and commerce, while also tackling insecurity through economic empowerment.

Kalu further announced that the president had approved the establishment of the South East Investment Company (SEIC) to attract diaspora and private equity investments to support regional rebuilding and economic growth.
