Circulating claims FG to commence YEIDEP disbursement, banks kick off BVN/NIN verification

0

September 16, 2025 – Earlier, Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalization Programme (YEIDEP) beneficiaries had to deal with fact checking a circular that claimed to be the Updated Schedules of Activities. But to this day, neither YEIDEP nor the Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD) has come out to dismiss or confirm the claim.

On the schedule, it was indicated that YEIDEP “Engagement with beneficiaries will take-off 11th September to October 11th 2025.” Since it was not a verified circular, the community would not take it seriously.

However, the September events that tend to correspond with the unverified circular makes it seem believable. The circular had claimed that “Collation of beneficiaries accounts will take place from 1st-10th September, 2025.” During this period, YEIDEP also had a stakeholders retreat on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025 and announced that the first tranche will enrol 8,000 beneficiaries.

More developments have gone on to take place with banks such as Zenith and Fidelity continuing to send account details to beneficiaries.

And as would be expected, there are already trending posts with the same caption claiming that “Federal government is set to commence the disbursement of YEIDEP grant to eligible Nigerians, as Banks kick off BVN and NIN Verification process.”

Whether this is true, as it is unverified by YEIDEP, FMYD and partner banks, it seems believable. The important thing is for beneficiaries to only engage with verified information from the FG as well as official notifications from partner banks.

0

The Federal Government has directed cattle rearers across the country to move their animals into designated grazing reserves as part of measures to end the recurring farmer-herder clashes.

Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, gave the order during a two-day media retreat for beat journalists held yesterday in Abuja. He explained that a roundtable dialogue had been held with the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammed Sa’ad III, and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to ensure that cows and other animals are no longer allowed to roam the cities and towns in search of pasture but are relocated to ranches in line with efforts to bring about lasting peace.

Maiha stated: “All the animals roaming Abuja city centre will have to be relocated to the grazing reserves. And we mean it, and we are going to do it; it is going to happen. We want peace, we need peace to develop. We are working with every government and every security agency in this country to achieve that.”

The minister further disclosed that the ministry would embark on a national peace campaign to promote sustainable calm between farmers and herders, ethnic association groups, and warring communities across the federation.

He stressed the importance of the media in changing the narrative about livestock development, urging journalists to help shift public perception from stigma to enlightenment. According to him, for the livestock industry to grow and contribute to economic development, “all hands must be on deck.”

The Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) has announced that it has disbursed over ₦1 trillion in empowerment interventions since 2015, with 62 per cent of the funds directly benefiting women.

DBN’s Managing Director, Mr Tobi Okparachi, disclosed this on Tuesday in Yola during an empowerment programme for women. He was represented by the bank’s Head of Corporate Services, Mr Idris Salihu.

The event, organised in partnership with the Organisation for Environmental, Agricultural and Health Development (OEAHD), trained 200 women across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa.

The programme was held under the theme, “Empowering Women through Entrepreneurship for Economic Inclusion.” It seeks to promote gender empowerment, economic inclusion and financial independence among women.

Okparachi explained that the initiative is designed to improve women’s access to finance for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He added that the training was tailored to equip participants with the tools needed to move from financial exclusion to financial inclusion.

“Empowering women has become increasingly critical. Women contribute significantly to economic growth and community wellbeing. This initiative seeks to strengthen their capacity to become financially independent and economically productive,” he said.

According to him, a robust monitoring and evaluation framework has also been put in place to assess the impact and sustainability of the businesses created through the programme.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Tabitha Sallah, President of OEAHD, said the training covered practical areas such as agriculture, environmental sustainability, health services and entrepreneurship.

She described the initiative as a long-term investment in the nation’s future, pointing out that it was designed to reduce the gender gap in economic opportunities.

“We are committed to ensuring that women are not left behind in the economic transformation of our nation. Our participation and leadership are not optional; they are essential,” she said.

Sallah commended DBN for its collaboration, noting that the partnership reflects national recognition and is targeted at enabling women to drive economic progress.

Also, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Neido Kofulto, praised the initiative, calling it both timely and essential. She encouraged participants to take the training seriously and apply the knowledge gained to improve their livelihoods and contribute to community growth.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Christiana Filibus, a physically challenged participant, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. She said the training provided valuable knowledge on business registration, marketing and regulatory compliance.

“The professional advice we received from CAC, NAFDAC and BOI was invaluable. We are committed to registering and formalising our businesses to ensure long-term growth,” she said.

Plateau State increases youth business loans to N4bn with skills training

0

Plateau State Government has announced an increase in its youth empowerment fund to N4bn to provide loans for young people to start businesses.

The Commissioner for Youths, Musa Ashoms, disclosed this on Monday during a youth empowerment programme held at the Federal Youth Centre in Jos North Local Government Area.

“During the inauguration of this training, we mentioned raising a supplementary budget of N2bn,” Ashoms said.

“Just two days ago, we met with young people to discuss the Plateau Building Agency. We brought in 302 youths to the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, and they had an interface with the governor. He announced a package where a bank is willing to give us N2bn, and the government will provide counterpart funding of N2bn, making it N4bn, so that we can give our young people loans to start businesses,” he added.

The commissioner explained that the initiative, under the Plateau Youth Employment and Skill Acquisition programme, aims to equip young people with practical skills in ICT, leather works, and fashion design.

“We’ve trained them in ICT, leather works, and fashion design. We hope they will return to their communities and make an impact. We’ve given them starter packs and seed capital to help them set up businesses in their communities,” Ashoms said.

He also praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang for releasing the state’s counterpart funding to make the programme possible.

Zonal Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Deborah Pitmang, described the effort as a major step forward, noting that the National Youth Centre in Plateau State is one of the most active in the North Central region.

“This is the very first time Plateau State itself is coming to do this kind of programme here. The training covered leather works, ICT, and fashion design. We trained 250 youths, and they were taught to form clusters and pool resources to maximise opportunities,” Pitmang said.

One of the beneficiaries, Peter Daboer, expressed gratitude to the state government, describing the programme as life-changing for many young people.

“The programme has equipped us with the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to excel in our chosen fields and contribute to the economic growth and development of Plateau State and the nation at large,” Daboer said.

FG begins training 1,500 youths on renewable energy

0

The federal government has launched a nationwide training programme for 1,500 young Nigerians on renewable energy technologies aimed at preparing the country for a cleaner and more sustainable future.

The initiative, implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) under its Energising Education Programme, officially began in Maiduguri with 100 students from the University of Maiduguri making up the first batch of beneficiaries.

The programme is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on providing electricity to unserved and underserved communities to boost economic growth and improve living standards.

Speaking at the launch, the managing director of REA, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, said the training is designed to create a skilled workforce that can drive Nigeria’s ambition to become Africa’s leading hub for renewable energy.

“This requires more than infrastructure deployment. It demands a new generation of young people who are technically trained in the operation, maintenance and financing of renewable energy projects,” he stated.

Aliyu revealed that the training is being conducted using renewable energy facilities already deployed by the agency across the country to give participants practical, hands-on experience.

He also announced that the maiden National Renewable Energy Forum will be held in Abuja in September, with invitations extended to all states.

He noted that Borno State was chosen as the starting point because of earlier investments in solar panel assembly plants, which align with the federal government’s goal of promoting local manufacturing of renewable energy components.

“For Nigeria to truly become the renewable hub of Africa, we must encourage local manufacturing of renewable energy components. This is a key priority of Mr President, and one of the areas we are working closely with is the private sector to deliver,” Aliyu added.

Also speaking, the Head of the Nigeria Electrification Programme (NEP), Oluyemi Akinyulere, said the initiative builds on earlier experiences from the construction of the Maiduguri solar power plant, where 20 STEM students were involved from soil testing to the commissioning of the plant.

Akinyulere explained that similar training programmes would be held in other universities covered by the Energising Education Programme.

According to him, each participating institution will train about 100 students at world-class centres built as part of the project.

He disclosed that 15 universities are expected to benefit from this current phase, while additional institutions would be included in subsequent phases to expand access to renewable energy education and skills development.

Governor Malam Umar Namadi, this afternoon, received a high-powered delegation from the Indian agro-tech company, CornTech Seeds Private Limited, at the Government House. The delegation was led by the company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Venkateswarlu Yaganti.

During the visit, both parties signed a three-year Memorandum of Cooperation to boost agricultural productivity in Jigawa State through hybrid seed technology. Speaking at the event, Governor Namadi said the partnership aligns with his 12-point agenda to improve food security and livelihoods across the state.

Mr. Yaganti explained that the initiative would introduce advanced maize, rice, wheat, and vegetable seeds to farmers. “We will also carry out trials tailored to Jigawa’s climate, provide farmer training, extension support, and post-harvest management,” he stated.

The agreement is expected to increase crop yields, enhance sustainable agriculture, and support farmers with modern techniques to meet growing food demand in the region.
