Speaking on Friday, September 5, 2025, during the ongoing Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025) in Algiers, Algeria, Adeniyi said the Nigeria Customs Service is working closely with other African customs administrations to drive transparency, efficiency, and innovation in continental trade.

“Customs reforms are no longer optional; they are essential for Africa to realise its full potential in trade. We must prioritise efficiency, transparency, and innovation to strengthen the competitiveness of African exporters and advance continental integration,” Adeniyi said.

He explained that Nigeria has already begun implementing wide-ranging modernisation programmes through the Customs Service. The 2025 edition is expected to generate over $44 billion in deals, bringing together thousands of exhibitors, governments, and investors to boost intra-African trade and drive economic growth.

The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has started screening candidates who scored 40 and above in the 2025 Ogun TEACh test. This move is part of efforts to strengthen the state’s secondary school teaching workforce.

Speaking at the screening exercise held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Chairman of TESCOM, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, said that 1,000 successful applicants would be deployed to secondary schools across the state as teaching interns. He explained that the internship would last for two years, after which the most outstanding interns would be offered permanent teaching appointments.

Sanyaolu stressed that the recruitment process would be based strictly on merit and transparency. He added that there would be a thorough verification of academic credentials and that subject relevance would be given priority to ensure schools have qualified teachers in critical areas of need.

“The administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun is committed to raising the standard of education in Ogun State. This is why TESCOM is following due process in the engagement of interns, in line with the state government’s vision for the education sector,” Sanyaolu stated.

He further highlighted the importance of teacher quality in improving learner performance and urged the selected interns to be diligent and efficient in their duties.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has entered into a partnership with the International Fertilizer Development Center to boost fertilizer availability, accessibility, and affordability in Nigeria. The collaboration is also expected to enhance soil health and strengthen food security.

Speaking on the development, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said there is a need to strengthen input markets, expand last-mile delivery systems, and scale climate-smart soil fertility practices to support smallholder farmers.

He pointed out that the Nigeria Farmers Soil Health Scheme provides tailored fertilizer recommendations for specific crops and locations, helping farmers get the right inputs for better yields.

According to the ministry, the partnership will provide technical assistance, support local blending capacity, and curb adulteration in the input supply chain. It will also ensure that quality fertilizer and other inputs reach farmers on time while advancing the country’s food security goals.

A Technical Committee will be set up to work on the details of the collaboration. The committee will focus on strengthening private-sector distribution networks, promoting balanced nutrient use, and supporting evidence-based policies that will make Nigeria’s input markets more competitive and sustainable.

According to him, “the government is committed to providing an enabling environment, policies, and access to capital to ensure growth in the agricultural sector.” He noted that the involvement of the private sector is crucial, adding that AFGSAN’s collaboration would play a key role under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The message, which went viral, alleged that NSIEC was calling for applications from interested persons to serve as ad-hoc staff in the forthcoming local government council election scheduled for 1st November, 2025.

The false advert stated that applicants must hold at least a First Degree, HND, NCE, Diploma, or an equivalent qualification, and were to submit a written application letter with a passport photograph attached.

It also listed positions including Returning Officer, Supervisors, Presiding Officer, Assistant Presiding Officer, and Poll Clerk. The advert further directed that applications should be submitted to the Local Government Electoral Officer on or before 30th September, 2025.

The commission urged members of the public to treat the advert as fake news. NSIEC assured that in line with its transparent policy, the public will be properly informed whenever there is an official recruitment of ad-hoc staff.

“We will collaborate closely with technical colleges to ensure the necessary infrastructure, equipment, and qualified instructors are in place for high-quality programme delivery,” he said.

He called on industry partners to play an active role in the next phase by offering internship opportunities, workplace training, and mentorship to students.

Dr. Mohammed expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Education for providing leadership and policy backing for technical education reforms.
