EFCC arrests Gavice Logistics CEO over N2bn investment fraud

0

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested Ahamba Tochukwu, Chief Executive Officer of Gavice Logistics Limited, over an alleged fraud running into N2,000,000,000. The anti-graft agency disclosed that Tochukwu lured unsuspecting Nigerians into bogus logistics investment schemes.

According to investigators, the suspect rolled out investment plans covering haulage, courier, and e-commerce services, while promising investors a mouthwatering fifty percent Return on Investment, ROI. “Tochukwu, through Gavice Logistics Limited, raked in more than N2 billion from over 400 investors who can no longer access their capital and ROI since November 2024,” EFCC sources said.

The agency explained that the suspect suddenly disappeared after collecting the funds, leaving hundreds of victims stranded. The EFCC confirmed that its operatives, acting on intelligence, eventually tracked down and arrested Tochukwu, who is currently being grilled over what has been described as another Ponzi scheme disguised as a logistics investment.

“With his arrest, members of the public are enjoined to desist from patronising unverified pyramid schemes and fraudulent investment promoters to avoid being defrauded,” the EFCC stated, warning that quick money offers in the name of investment often end in massive losses for investors.

Rivers State Administrator, Vice-Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has restated his administration’s focus on human capital development as a key part of the state’s growth agenda. He said this on Wednesday in Port Harcourt during the opening of a 30-day fully residential Vanguard Initiative on Behavioural Modification Programme for youths in the state.

Ibas, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, explained that real progress must go beyond physical infrastructure.

“As a government, we are not only building bridges, schools, and hospitals; we are also building human capital. Real development is measured in minds that are trained, hearts that are disciplined, and hands that are willing to work,” he stated.

The Administrator noted that the Vanguard Initiative was introduced to prepare young people with resilience, discipline, and practical skills. He stressed that the programme would help participants embrace peace, avoid violence, and position themselves as innovators and future employers of labour.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, Mrs. Ruhuoma Kejeh, said the Behavioural Modification Training (BMT) was founded on the belief that reorientation should come before technical empowerment.

She further explained that the Ministry had designed a new approach tagged Train to Engage (TTE) to ensure participants receive full guidance and mentorship even after the training.

“In the days ahead, the Ministry will engage Skills Masters to deliver trainings in CNG conversion, ICT, fashion design, vocational skills, and agribusiness,” she announced.

Peter Obi challenges Tinubu’s revenue target claims

0

September 3, 2025 – President Bola Tinubu earlier announced that Nigeria has achieved its revenue target for the year by August, a development that has been described as a sign of economic stability.

Reacting to the announcement, former presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi congratulated the President but urged that the revenue growth must directly impact the lives of Nigerians.

He said, “Congratulations Mr. President. But Mr. President, if indeed the economy stabilises as you declared, then Nigerians must feel it in their daily lives. Borrowings must stop now. Huge Contractors’ bills, which are still owed should be paid, and critical underfunded projects must now be funded.”

Obi stressed that true economic stability goes beyond official figures and should reflect in key sectors that affect citizens.

He explained, “Our educational facilities and hospitals are still in terrible condition. True economic stability is not in figures announced at press conferences, but in classrooms where children learn, in well-equipped labs and access to learning tools, in hospitals, where citizens can receive quality care, equipped with adequate facilities.”

He further urged that the excess revenue generated in the remaining months of the year should be channeled into health, education, and poverty reduction.

“For the next four months, every value of our excess revenue should be deliberately channelled into the critical areas of development: health, education, and pulling people out of poverty. This must be done transparently, with verifiable and measurable outcomes.”

He concluded by noting that “anything less will mean that revenue growth has not translated into national growth. Nigerians deserve to see the impacts of this touted revenue growth. A new Nigeria is POssible.”

Gombe State to Establish $2m CNG Hub

0

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has held a meeting with a delegation from Greenville CNG/LNG, led by its Chairman, Mr. Eddy van den Broeke, to fast-track the establishment of a Compressed Natural Gas hub in Gombe State.

The meeting, which took place at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, was attended by the company’s Managing Director, Ritu Sahajwalla, and the Chief Executive Officer, Mutiu Sommonu. Discussions centered on finalizing plans for a major energy infrastructure project aimed at delivering cleaner, safer, and more cost-effective fuel options for transportation and industrial use across Gombe and beyond.

The proposed hub will include Liquefied to Compressed Natural Gas refill stations. Governor Inuwa Yahaya disclosed that the state government has already allocated land for the project and approved the engineering designs. He stated, “We are committed to leveraging natural gas to make transportation more affordable, reduce environmental pollution and stimulate industrial growth in our region.”

Mr. Eddy van den Broeke explained that one of the major obstacles in Northern Nigeria has been the lack of gas pipelines, which has limited access to affordable clean energy. He said the Greenville-led project will bridge this gap through the trucking of LNG from the South to Gombe, where it will be regasified and distributed as CNG for various purposes. He commended the leadership of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, stressing that Gombe’s location and favorable policies make it an ideal choice for such a regional gas hub.

The CNG hub is expected to significantly cut the cost of transportation by providing cheaper alternatives for vehicles, including public transport systems. Plans are underway to introduce CNG-powered tricycles and other vehicles as part of Gombe State’s transportation master plan. Conversion centres will also be established to enable vehicle owners to switch from petrol and diesel to natural gas, a move that will boost energy security and reduce harmful emissions.

According to officials present at the meeting, the next steps include mobilizing equipment and resources to the site, completing technical documentation, and carrying out the groundbreaking for the smooth execution of the project.

It will be recalled that a Director from Greenville CNG/LNG, Alhaji Yusuf Zaiyana, was recently in Gombe with a technical team to inspect the allocated four hectares of land and collect necessary approvals and drawings. He revealed that Greenville is committing over 2 million dollars to the CNG and LCNG projects, with mobilization to site expected to begin shortly.

Once completed, the CNG hub in Gombe will not only serve the state but also extend to the North-East and parts of the North-West, creating jobs, lowering fuel costs, and promoting a cleaner environment.
