Kwara State welcomes ban on raw shea butter

0

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has welcomed the decision of President Bola Tinubu to ban the exportation of raw shea butter, describing it as a move that will boost production and strengthen the local value chain of the crop.

The presidential directive comes as Kwara prepares to launch a 50-tonne shea processing factory in Kaiama, which will be the second largest in the country and the biggest owned by a state government. The new factory is one of the major economic projects being implemented under Governor AbdulRazaq.

Speaking on the development, the Governor said the policy would encourage growth in local production, improve the quality of shea butter, and create jobs across the value chain. He explained that the Kaiama facility is designed to stimulate economic activities in Kwara North and employ several local workers, especially women farmers and pickers who are actively involved in the sector.

“Locating the factory within Kaiama puts the people at the centre of local shea production, ensures local ownership of benefits, such as job creation, reduced post harvest losses, and value retention in Kaiama,” AbdulRazaq said in a statement on Tuesday.

He added that, “This project exemplifies backward and forward integration as it combines raw material sourcing, processing, and market access in one locality.”

Kwara and Niger States are widely recognised as the heartlands of shea nut trees in Nigeria. Kwara North alone accounts for over 250,000 naturally growing and producing trees spread across 6,000 hectares of land, making it a strategic hub for shea butter production and related economic activities.

Tinubu’s SA calls Lagos “No-Man’s Land”

0

Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has described Lagos State as a “no-man’s land” and the pride of Nigeria’s economy. He made this statement during an interview on the Daybreak programme on Arise Television on Wednesday.

Bwala explained that the concentration of federal projects in Lagos should not be seen as favouritism but as necessary investment in Nigeria’s commercial hub. According to him, Lagos holds a unique place in the country’s economic landscape.

“Let me tell you why Lagos State is different. Lagos State is a no-man’s land. In the last election, the President who comes from the South-West did not win Lagos. That tells you the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos State,” he said.

He further argued that the city attracts businesses from across the country. “The richest man in Africa is a northerner. His business is not in Kano, it’s in Lagos. Almost every rich man that you know in Nigeria has business undertaking in Lagos and the Nigerian people are represented in Lagos. If not because probably the majority of the people are Yoruba speaking, you will wonder whether Lagos indeed is from the South-West.”

Drawing comparisons with international economic hubs, Bwala added, “London has more investment than the entire states in England put together. New York has more infrastructure and investment than the rest of the United States, including California. Paris has more investment. So in every country, wherever you find the commercial nerve of that country, you are likely to see the need to put infrastructure in place in order to boost the economy. Whatever Lagos benefits, the country benefits.”

Bwala defended the reported N3.9 trillion worth of federal projects allocated to Lagos in two years, saying it was justified because Lagos remained Nigeria’s hub of commerce and a beacon of economic growth.

“So the idea that you put more in Lagos than in other states or the federation should be put into a proper context. Lagos is a no-man’s land. Lagos is the hub of Nigeria. Lagos is the pride of the country,” he stated.

FG to lower production cost for farmers

The Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, today held a bilateral meeting with senior officials of the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) in Dakar to accelerate joint efforts on fertilizer availability, soil health, and farmer productivity in Nigeria.

During the meeting, both parties discussed practical measures to strengthen input markets, expand last-mile delivery systems, and scale climate-smart soil fertility practices for smallholder farmers ahead of the next planting season. The talks also focused on technical assistance for data-driven fertilizer recommendations, support for local blending capacity, and new initiatives to curb adulteration in the input supply chain.

“The Federal Government is determined to lower the cost of production for our farmers and raise yields sustainably,” Senator Kyari said. “A stronger partnership with IFDC will help us improve soil health, ensure quality inputs reach farmers on time, and advance food security in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR’s agenda.”

Representatives of IFDC welcomed the opportunity to deepen collaboration with Nigeria, noting the country’s strategic role in West Africa’s agricultural transformation. The discussions highlighted four major work areas: strengthening private-sector distribution networks, targeted soil testing with balanced nutrient use, farmer training on good agronomic practices, and evidence-based policies to build competitive and transparent input markets.

The Honourable Minister emphasized that all interventions would focus on affordability, quality assurance, and timely delivery of inputs to farmers, particularly in staple crop belts. He explained that this approach aligns with the Ministry’s broader agricultural programs designed to raise productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve farmer livelihoods across the country.

Both sides agreed to set up a technical working group to refine the action plan and timelines. The group will define clear milestones on farmer reach, extension delivery, and monitoring and evaluation to ensure effective progress and accountability.

Nigeria has met 2025 revenue target in August, says Tinubu

0

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja announced that the 2025 revenue target was achieved as early as August, attributing the success to ongoing economic reforms that are stimulating growth in the non-oil sector. He noted that most of the revenue came from the non-oil sector and assured Nigerians that the Renewed Hope Agenda remains focused on building critical infrastructure, improving health facilities, ensuring food sovereignty, and strengthening security across the country.

Speaking at a meeting held at the Presidential Villa with the founding members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change and The Buhari Organisation, led by former Governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, President Tinubu said the economy is on the right path.

“The economy is now stabilised. Nobody is trading pieces of paper for foreign exchange anymore. The economy is now predictable. You do not need to know the CBN Governor, Yemi Cardoso, to obtain foreign exchange or import goods. What we need now is building the ship and the vessels for the export of our goods and creating more jobs for our people,” the President said.

He added that the federal government will establish agricultural mechanisation centres in all regions of the country to build capacity, expand cultivation and harvest, and guarantee food sovereignty. “We are going to have trainees. That programme is our path to food sovereignty,” Tinubu stated.

Reflecting on his long political journey with the Congress for Progressive Change, President Tinubu described the experience as “a sweet memory” and thanked members of the group for their loyalty and support over the years. “When I see people like you, I am determined to work harder,” he said.

He assured the delegation that the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari would be preserved, announcing plans to immortalise him with the establishment of a Buhari House. Tinubu further promised that more members of the defunct CPC would be given opportunities to participate in his administration.

“Thank you for your patience until now. But first of all, we must cure the economy and bring hope to the people, which is what we stand for. Thank you for believing in me,” the President told the delegation.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who was present at the meeting, commended President Tinubu for his statesmanship and magnanimity towards the people and government of Katsina State. Abbas also praised the President’s vision and his ability to accommodate different political stakeholders.

The leader of the delegation, Al-Makura, said members of the former Congress for Progressive Change remain committed to the success of the All Progressives Congress government. He thanked the President for his role in the final rites of former President Buhari.

“You not only buried President Buhari but also honoured him and ensured a befitting state burial with full military honours. Above all, your presence throughout the ceremony was comforting as it was reassuring,” Al-Makura said.

He pledged continued loyalty to the Tinubu administration, adding, “This is to assure you that we believe in your administration, and that will be our focus and commitment to ensure the success of our party and your ultimate victory in the 2027 elections.”

G4EP launches free digital skills training for Nigerian girls

0

The Gender Education, Engagement, Empowerment, and Entrepreneurship Programme (G4EP) has unveiled a new training initiative for young girls across Nigeria, describing it as a step toward empowering the girl-child through education, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation.

According to the organisers, the initiative falls under its flagship project called Renewed Hope for Inclusion, Support, and Empowerment, and aligns with the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda.

“By providing access to in-demand creative and digital skills, the programme is designed to foster inclusion and create real opportunities for girls to thrive in today’s tech-driven world, ensuring that no one is left behind,” the statement read.

The organisers explained that the training will focus on photography, web design, cinematography, and graphic design, which they described as four powerful areas in today’s creative and digital economy.

“By equipping young girls with these in-demand skills, G4EP seeks not only to bridge the gender gap in technology and media but also to empower participants to become creators, innovators, and leaders in their chosen fields,” the organisers added.

They noted that digital literacy and creativity now open doors to limitless opportunities. “Whether through photography that tells compelling stories, websites that shape businesses, graphics that communicate powerful messages, or films that inspire, young people are rewriting narratives and shaping society. Unfortunately, many girls are often left behind due to a lack of access, mentorship, or financial support.”

Highlighting the accessibility of the programme, the organisers stressed that registration and training are completely free of charge. “This ensures that every girl, regardless of financial background, has equal access to world-class training and mentorship. With the free training commencing on September 8th, 2025, G4EP has removed barriers that often limit the girl child. This is the true spirit of Renewed Hope, giving every girl a fair chance to learn, grow, and shine,” they said.

Chairman of G4EP, Judith Ogbara, described the Renewed Hope for Inclusion, Support, and Empowerment (RISE) project as one focused on inclusion, empowerment, and creating pathways for the girl child to rise above limitations. She maintained that through the training, the programme is preparing girls to compete globally in technology, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

“With this initiative, G4EP continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to the empowerment of girls in Nigeria. By equipping them with creative and digital skills, the program is shaping a new generation of storytellers, innovators, and entrepreneurs who will leave their mark on the world,” Ogbara stated.

She added that interested applicants can register through the official G4EP training portal. Selected participants, she said, will receive mentorship, practical sessions, and access to industry-standard resources throughout the programme.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, CON, has commended the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for 73 years of excellence and for successfully conducting the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

He said reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda are reshaping Nigeria’s education sector through smarter curricula, stronger digital infrastructure, enhanced teacher training, improved tertiary governance, and reforms in medical education.

Dr. Alausa emphasized that these reforms will make education the backbone of national transformation, job creation, and wealth generation.
