DSS Issues Disclaimer on N1,000 Past Questions/Answers Amid Recruitment Rumours

0

August 23, 2025 – The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a disclaimer on the ongoing news about recruitment, but it is not what many interested applicants have been expecting.

The agency posted a disclaimer on a circulating advert about DSS Past Questions and Answers being sold for N1,000 with a WhatsApp contact number. The disclaimer post carried only the caption “Disclaimer” and did not provide further information.

This comes at a time when rumours about DSS recruitment are spreading across Nigeria, with claims that handwritten applications are currently being accepted.

The cryptic nature of the disclaimer has left many Nigerians with mixed reactions, as it did not directly debunk the recruitment claims.

On the official DSS website, the most recent disclaimer was published on May 21, 2025, where the agency clearly stated that no recruitment exercise was ongoing.

However, in this latest case, the DSS did not deny the reports but only distanced itself from the sale of the past questions.

Netizens quickly reacted to the post, interpreting it in different ways. One commenter wrote, “This is an affirmation that DSS is recruiting.” Another person added, “As DSS has put a disclaimer, then I should find and buy a copy!”

The reactions highlight a growing belief among applicants that the recruitment is in progress, while the past questions and answers PDF being sold is not authorised by the agency. Some say the only clear explanation is that DSS recruitment might indeed be ongoing, but the sale of materials is encouraged/approved.

Nonetheless, interested candidates are urged to remain patient and avoid paying anyone promising them a DSS job or exam materials. Only official updates from the agency’s office should be trusted.

First Lady Empowers 1,000 Women, Part of 18,500 RHI/SDGs Programme

August 23, 2025 – The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, says the administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to empowering women economically to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.

The First Lady said this on Saturday in Lagos at the official flag-off of Renewed Hope Initiative in the South-West geo-political zone and presentation of RHI/SDGs empowerment items to 1,000 women in the zone.

The empowerment programme was a collaborative effort of RHI and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs.

The empowerment programme is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at lifting 18,500 women across the nation out of poverty.

The RHI, a humanitarian programme of the First Lady, was aimed at complementing President Bola Tinubu’s agenda for every citizen to benefit directly from government programmes.

The First Lady said that 500 pre-selected women in Lagos State and other South-West states would be provided with items such as deep-chest freezers, maxi gas cookers with ovens, power generators, and industrial grinding machines.

“The items being distributed today are to equip our women with the necessary tools and resources they need to build successful businesses and to contribute to the prosperity of our great nation.

“These items will be distributed by state first ladies/RHI state coordinators in the South-West Zone,” she said.

The First Lady said that the tools were given to support the women in starting or growing their existing businesses.

“To the beneficiaries, I encourage you to use these resources judiciously to grow your businesses.

“Let these items serve as a foundation for creating a better life for yourselves and your families,” the First Lady said.

She praised Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for supporting the programme with an additional 500 empowerment items, bringing the total number of beneficiaries in Lagos State to 1,000.

“I commend Mr Governor for this gesture and his commitment to the growth and development of women in Lagos State.

“In recognition of the critical role women play in nation-building, this programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, which prioritises inclusivity, economic growth and sustainable development for all Nigerians, particularly women.

“Empowerment of women in all spheres of life is central to achieving all the SDGs, especially SDG-5 – achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls – and SDG-8 – achieving decent work and economic growth – which are all relevant to the purpose of this gathering,” she said.

She also commended the Senior Special Adviser to the President on SDGs, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, for her support.

Earlier, Mrs Orelope-Adefulire charged the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the empowerment items.

According to her, the initiative, which is part of Mr Tinubu’s agenda, aims to empower women and promote economic transformation across the country.

She said: “The programme is not just about distributing items. It is about unlocking potential, fostering economic independence and creating opportunities for women to thrive.”

She emphasised that economic empowerment of women was a crucial driver for gender equality, poverty reduction and sustainable development.

“The empowerment items, which include gas cookers, generators, deep freezers and grinding machines, are designed to equip women with the tools they need to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to national development,” she said.

Mrs Orelope-Adefulire thanked Mrs Tinubu for her initiative and leadership in improving the lives of women, men, youths and underserved communities across the 36 states of Nigeria.

She also thanked the Lagos State coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative and the wife of the governor of Lagos State for their support.

Mrs Orelope-Adefulire also thanked Mr Sanwo-Olu for the thoughtful initiatives that complemented the federal government’s programme, projects and policies.

“We thank you for additional support of 500 equipment to the initiative.

“I encourage the beneficiaries to make the best of the opportunity.

“Let this empowerment material serve as a stepping stone towards financial independence for youth, business development and sustainable livelihood.

“When a woman is empowered, a woman is able to build, the community is strengthened, and the nation prospers.”

In his remarks, Mr Sanwo-Olu described the programme as historic and a powerful testament of compassion.

“This gesture is a testament of leadership and unwavering belief that when we lift a woman, we lift families, we lift communities and, indeed, we lift an entire nation.

“Your Excellency, our mother, our beloved First Lady, words are certainly not enough to capture the depths of our gratitude that we feel toward you for your timeless commitment to the empowerment of women across our nation.

“We have watched you, we have heard your voice, your voice of courage, you have been a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope for women and children.

“This ceremony, which is the empowerment of 1,000 women, is far more than the distribution of support. It is sowing the seed that will grow into forests of possibility.”

Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, noted that the programme aligns with SDGs 1, 2, 5, 6, and 10, stressing that financially empowered women would positively impact their communities and the nation at large.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, while commending Senator Tinubu for her decades-long commitment to good governance, urged beneficiaries not to sell the empowerment tools but to use them to grow wealth and boost the state’s GDP.

BPP, NBA to Partner in Fighting Corruption in Public Procurement

0

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) have entered into a new partnership to strengthen the fight against corruption in Nigeria’s procurement processes. Both organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the NBA national secretariat in Abuja.

The Director General of BPP, Dr Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, ACFE, signed the MoU alongside the President of the NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN). Speaking during the signing, Adedokun described the collaboration as a significant step toward ensuring transparency, accountability, and trust in Nigeria’s procurement system.

He noted that the involvement of the NBA in procurement oversight marked an important milestone. “We are happy that we have accomplished this partnership. The partnership will build trust in Nigerian people. With the signing of this MoU, NBA and BPP will be well fortified to work for the Nigerian people. The MoU also shows how well BPP places the NBA in the scheme of things. Therefore, if the NBA is not playing a critical role, it means we are not ready for business because procurement is about the law,” Adedokun said.

The BPP boss explained that this MoU could still be updated in the future, emphasising the need to remove unfavourable terms in contract agreements. He stressed that while lawyers have the right to earn from their profession, they also have a responsibility to safeguard national resources. “While we are not averse to lawyers making money, we want them, more importantly, to save the country,” he added.

Adedokun also highlighted that Mazi Osigwe was the first NBA president, on record, to show strong interest in procurement, describing this as a sign of renewed hope for Nigeria. He said the deal represented a new phase in long-standing engagements aimed at boosting ethical standards within public procurement.

In his remarks, NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe recalled the earlier visit of the association’s leadership to the BPP office, where both sides had agreed in principle on training lawyers to become procurement professionals.

He explained that the NBA supported BPP’s goal of ensuring transparent procurement and preventing corruption in the system.

“Until we look at our procurement processes to ensure transparency and accountability, a significant portion of public funds used in public procurement will end up in private pockets,” Osigwe said.

The initiative is designed to raise a new generation of transformation leaders in agribusiness.

The launch took place in Abuja on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and aims to mobilise support for the implementation of the manifesto and the call to action across the country.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, said, “The programme is anchored on national frameworks such as the National Agriculture Technology and Innovation Policy, NATIP 2022-2027 and the Revised National Gender Policy in Agriculture for Nigeria and its strategic Plan of Action (2025-2030) among others.”

He explained that the strategy will institutionalise the Nigeria Youth in Agribusiness Forum (NYAF) initiative and provide a structured mechanism for implementing the call for action nationwide.

The minister added that the ministry is committed to working with LANOF and partners to develop the African Agribusiness Youth Strategy (AAYS).

Kyari described the launch as a call to duty for the ministry, stressing that all stakeholders are determined to translate the call to action into policies, investments, and opportunities that will promote agribusiness, youth empowerment, and food security.

Earlier in his welcome address, Leonard Okonkwo, co-founder of LANOF, said that through the Youth Farm (Y-Farm) Project, the foundation had developed and launched the first National Youth Manifesto in Agriculture for Nigeria in 2017.
