FG Paramilitary Recruitment: 1.88 Million Applications Face Rejection

0

August 13, 2025 – It’s no news that the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has officially closed its recruitment portal after weeks of online applications.

This follows a process that traces back to a June 3, 2025, circular from the Board’s Acting Secretary, A A Jibril, to the Federal Character Commission.

In the circular, titled “Status Report of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board,” the Board confirmed President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval for the recruitment of 30,150 personnel across four agencies, alongside 209 staff for the Board’s Secretariat.

The breakdown showed 5,150 positions for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), 10,000 for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), 5,000 for the Federal Fire Service (FFS), and 10,000 for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The letter also revealed the Board’s request for a waiver to advertise the recruitment for three weeks instead of the statutory six weeks required by law. “Attached herewith also, is a copy of financial clearance issued by the Budget Office of the Federation (BoF),” the circular stated, showing readiness to proceed with the recruitment exercise once approval was granted.

When the document first appeared online, federal authorities initially dismissed it as fake. However, days later, the circular was confirmed to be genuine.

The Board subsequently announced recruitment dates and figures that matched the document, including the shortened three-week application period. Although technical glitches affected the portal during the process, the exercise eventually closed as scheduled.

After closing the portal, the CDCFIB released statistics showing applications received by state. A total of 1,914,349 applications were submitted. Kogi State recorded the highest number with 116,378 applicants, while Bayelsa State had the lowest with 11,693 applicants.

If the recruitment target remains 30,000 personnel, this means 1,884,349 applications will not be successful.

Despite government assurances that the process will be based on merit, concerns remain about possible job racketeering, slot buying, and influence-based selections. In the end, how many slots are left for applicants on merits, even though we are told that this recruitment is based on merit?

The Board has assured that shortlisted candidates will be contacted soon with further instructions. Applicants are advised to keep monitoring their email and text messages in the coming weeks for official notifications.

The CDCFIB also encouraged candidates to regularly check the recruitment portal for any new updates regarding the next stage of the process.

August 12, 2025 – The Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Mathew Adepoju, has restated the agency’s dedication to using space-enabled data and innovations to advance geological mapping, resource exploration, and environmental protection in Nigeria.

He made this statement during a courtesy visit by the Director General of the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), Prof. Olusegun Ige, and his team to NASRDA Headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Adepoju explained that the collaboration between both agencies would open new opportunities in space technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation for Nigerian youths. According to him, such initiatives have the potential to create billionaires and generate substantial revenue for the nation.

He proposed the establishment of a joint technical committee to ensure the partnership leads to concrete projects, noting that NASRDA is already implementing socio-economic initiatives through its Centre for Geodesy and Geodynamics in Toro, Bauchi State.

Prof. Ige stressed that accurate and accessible geological data is essential for key industries, including aviation, manufacturing, construction, and energy.

He pointed out that NGSA’s expertise in land-based geological surveys, when combined with NASRDA’s advanced space technology, will lead to improved resource management and contribute to Nigeria’s sustainable development.

The meeting underscored how integrating space science with geological research could enhance mineral exploration, support infrastructure development, and strengthen environmental monitoring systems.

Both agencies expressed confidence that the partnership would align with national economic goals while creating more employment opportunities and encouraging innovation-driven growth across multiple sectors.

FG Urges Investment in Youth-Led Innovations at 2025 International Youth Day

0

August 12, 2025 – The Federal Government has called on private sectors, donor agencies, and civil society organisations to make sustained investments in youth-led innovations as a critical step toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and building a better future beyond 2030.

Speaking in Abuja at the 2025 International Youth Day Youth Innovation Funfair themed “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, said young people are not just beneficiaries of the global goals but active co-creators of solutions that can transform Nigeria and the world.

“Your innovation is the bridge between today’s Nigeria and the Nigeria we dream for future generations,” Olawande told participants. He urged partners to support youth initiatives with funding, mentorship, and access to markets, noting that over 60% of Nigeria’s population is under the age of 25.

He said the creativity and energy of young Nigerians are already driving changes in agriculture, health, education, renewable energy, and digital technology.

The Minister observed that young innovators face challenges such as limited access to finance and market opportunities. He explained that the Youth Innovation Funfair, organised by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, was created to connect youth innovators with investors, partners, and mentors.

Olawande pledged the Ministry’s commitment to improving policies for youth entrepreneurship, expanding access to finance, creating opportunities for global exposure, and ensuring youth voices are central in decision-making at all levels.

“Let us leave here committed to empowering our youth to lead in achieving the SDGs, and to continue shaping our nation long after 2030,” he said. “Together, we can achieve the SDGs and go beyond.”

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Olubunmi Olusanya, reaffirmed that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, youth engagement and development remain a national priority.

He highlighted initiatives such as the Nigeria Youth Academy, the Nigeria Youth Help Desk, and the Nigeria Youth Parliament, as well as programmes that expand digital skills, promote entrepreneurship, and reform institutions like the NYSC.

Olusanya said these efforts aim to equip young Nigerians to lead, innovate, and thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Delivering a goodwill message, the United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative in Nigeria, Ms. Elsie Attafuah, described this year’s theme as highly relevant for the country.

She stated that the Sustainable Development Goals will not be achieved in major capitals like New York, Geneva, or Abuja alone, but in local communities where everyday life happens. With over 60% of Africa’s population under the age of 25, she said Nigeria is at the heart of a historic demographic movement.

Ms. Attafuah emphasised that Nigerian youth are not only the “future workforce” but also problem solvers, innovators, and nation-builders of today.

She pointed out that across the country, young people are already reimagining agriculture, developing technology solutions, using art for peacebuilding, and launching green enterprises to address climate change.

Lagos Partners Old Students to Boost Education, Alumni Seek Jibowu High Senior Status

0

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to partner with Old Students Associations to improve the education sector in the state. This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Bisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, during the 40th anniversary celebration of Jibowu High School 1985 Set.

Mrs. Dokunmu-Adegbite, who also serves as the Permanent Secretary, Audit Service Commission, explained that the government is ready to work closely with old students associations to identify areas in need of intervention, promote public-private partnerships, and develop policies that will benefit students, schools, and the government.

She commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his efforts in transforming the state’s education system and revealed that a stakeholders’ meeting will soon be convened. According to her, “We will call a meeting of the old students associations from all secondary schools in Lagos State to brainstorm on ways to help move the education sector forward.”

Mr. Wasiu Olayinka, Permanent Secretary, Wealth Creation and a member of the Jibowu High School Alumni, appealed to the government to restore the school’s status as a senior secondary school. He warned that the alumni’s contributions could decline if the school remains a junior secondary school.

He also expressed concern about the presence of Keke Napep operators and touts around the school premises, noting that such activities could negatively affect students.

The National President of the Jibowu High School Alumni, Estate Surveyor Tosin Kadiri, also spoke on the matter.

He lamented the drop in the old students’ population since the school was converted to a junior school, explaining that many students leave for other schools to complete their senior secondary education. He urged the government to return the school to its former status.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the 1985 set donated a laptop, a drum set, and whiteboards to the school. The School Principal, Mrs. Olasumbo Ogundeyin, thanked the alumni for their support and assured them that the items will be properly used and maintained.

The event was attended by former teachers, alumni members, families, and friends, marking a significant moment in the history of Jibowu High School.
