Adamawa Clarifies PAWECA Training List Separate from Business Wallet

August 11, 2025 – The Adamawa State government has clarified that the list of successful candidates for the PAWECA Technical Skills Acquisition entrance exams is different from the PAWECA Fintiri Business Wallet initiative for small-scale business owners.

According to Pius Iliya, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on media and publicity, “The 40,000 beneficiaries of the PAWECA empowerment funds are just waiting for disbursement, which will be done at the end of this month by God’s grace.”

He explained that over 6,000 shortlisted candidates for the Technical Skills Acquisition program in batch 1 will soon begin training at various centers across the state, while batch 2 will join them later. Iliya urged the public to understand that both programs are separate and serve different empowerment purposes.

FG YouthCred First-Time Loan is N50,000, Not N200,000

There is confusion and misleading information being spread concerning the immediate loan amount of the new loan program, YouthCred, which is helping youths understand credit and at the same time have access to small loans.

Rumors have claimed that you can borrow up to N200,000 immediately after signing up. This is not true, according to the current policy of the program.

Recall that the Federal Government recently launched the YouthCred loan scheme.

YouthCred program only offers first-time applicants a loan of up to N50,000. However, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members can increase their limit to N200,000 after successfully repaying what they borrow.

However, applicants must pass a financial literacy test with at least 80% before receiving funds. The first loan can be upgraded after repayment, with repayment being automated through the Corps Member’s NYSC allowance account.

This means that as long as a Youth Corper is putting into practice what they learn during the test, and are being financially responsible, they will qualify for higher loan amounts.

“YouthCred teaches financial literacy before providing loans, making it a cultural reorientation program, not just a financial product,” according to the program statement.

This initiative is a foundational step toward building a credit-ready generation, unlocking access to housing, business financing, and long-term financial inclusion.

Youth Corps members are encouraged to apply at www.youthcred.com while the program is still ongoing. Applicants are reminded that this is a Federal Government-backed loan and not a grant, which means that you are obligated to pay back.

Ekiti to Host 2-Day Export Accelerator Training for MSMEs

August 11, 2025 – The Ekiti State Government, through the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, in collaboration with the Ekiti State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (EKDIPA), has announced plans to host a two-day training on the Export Accelerator Programme for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The State Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, Mrs. Omotayo Adeola, disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti, noting that the event is scheduled for Tuesday, 12th, and Wednesday, 13th August, 2025, at the Civic Center, Ado-Ekiti.

She explained that the programme is designed to equip businesses with the skills, resources, and networks needed to access international markets and grow through export opportunities.

According to Mrs. Adeola, the training will feature expert-led sessions, export readiness assessments, access to trade finance, guidance on packaging and branding, as well as connections to buyers, aggregators, and opportunities for participation in trade fairs.

She added that priority sectors include agriculture, agro-processing, fashion, crafts, and light manufacturing, with emphasis on simplifying export documentation and improving access to global markets.

“This initiative will target startups with export potential, producers and processors in agriculture and agro-allied sectors, existing exporters seeking better market access, and women and youth-led enterprises,” she said.

The Commissioner stressed that the Export Accelerator Programme aligns with the state’s commitment to boosting economic growth and enhancing trade competitiveness. The event is expected to draw significant participation from entrepreneurs aiming to tap into the benefits of international trade.

The training is part of broader state initiatives, including partnerships for solar irrigation infrastructure in cluster farms, improved waste management through the fabrication of 20 more Dino Bins, and calls for enhanced electricity supply to communities like Ago-Aduloju.

Educational development is also a focus, with the Ekiti SUBEB leadership urging teachers and education managers to enroll their children in public primary schools. These measures are aimed at strengthening various sectors to support inclusive economic growth.

PAWECA Announces Needs Assessment, Up to N50k Per Month

Recall that the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA) announced that the list of shortlisted candidates for its upcoming skills acquisition training across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State is now available.

Speaking to the press, PAWECA Director General, Dr. Michael Zira, said the initiative is in line with the policy of empowerment and youth development championed by the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, His Excellency Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

“We are aware that about two months ago, we visited all the 21 local governments to inform those interested in training at our centres in various fields such as tying, mechanical, electrical, solar panel installation, telephone repair, and welding,” Zira said.

He explained that many of the courses offered are aligned with modern technologies. “His Excellency believes that by the time you learn these courses and take them seriously, you can be able to take care of yourself. A lot of people have succeeded in these courses,” he stated.

According to Dr. Zira, the results for the training centre exams are out, and all candidates are encouraged to check their names at their local government secretariat.

A needs assessment will be conducted on Thursday to help candidates select courses that align with their interests.

“This time around, we are going to monitor and evaluate those in our training centres to ensure attendance. Previously, some participants skipped classes because of the 10,000 naira stipend. Now, you must have 75% attendance before you will be paid,” Zira stressed.

He noted that the governor’s vision is to make Adamawa State a hub for small businesses. “Apart from the fintech sector, which has done marvellous work, His Excellency’s programmes have reduced poverty from 74% to 60%,” he said.

Dr. Zira also disclosed that this month, 40,000 people will receive between 22,000 and 50,000 naira each, amounting to 2 billion naira. “Last year, we reduced poverty with 5 billion naira. This time, apart from the 2 billion, we are adding another 100,000 beneficiaries with 5 billion. With 7 billion, the economy of small business owners will improve, and poverty could drop to 30–40% next year,” he explained.

He urged citizens to pray for the governor and his family, noting the significant changes in the state over the past six years. “If you came to Adamawa six years ago and return now, you might think you are in Dubai or another developed society,” he added.

On enrolment, Zira revealed that 10,000 people are targeted this year, but 6,850 have been sent to training centres so far. “We cannot take all at once. At most, we can admit 4,000 to 5,000 at the same time. The remaining will join in batches depending on the course duration – three months, six months, or one year,” he explained.

He said the training programme will run from August 2025 to August 2026, admitting participants in phases to ensure smooth operations. “It doesn’t matter which month you start, it is a one-year programme,” he concluded.
