FG Unveils NEP 2025 to Create Jobs and Reduce Poverty

0

The Federal Government has described the Revised National Employment Policy (NEP) as a vital part of its plan to reduce poverty and create more job opportunities in Nigeria.

This was made known by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, during the official launch of the Revised National Employment Policy 2025 in Abuja on Tuesday. He explained that the updated policy is aimed at offering bold, inclusive, and forward-thinking solutions to Nigeria’s employment issues.

Dingyadi said, “The revised policy offers a bold, inclusive and future-fit solution to the nation’s employment challenges.” He stressed that the NEP will help build a labour market that supports inclusive growth, fairness, productivity, and sustainability for all Nigerians.

The Minister highlighted that the review of the policy became necessary due to rising levels of youth unemployment, underemployment, informal sector growth, gender gaps, and regional job differences across the country. He also noted that the COVID-19 pandemic made these issues even more visible and urgent.

He said, “The recent COVID-19 pandemic further exposed Nigeria’s vulnerabilities, and the need for proactive, adaptive, and progressive employment policies.” Dingyadi pointed out that other global factors like automation, climate change, digitisation, demographic changes, and political instability have made it important to shift away from outdated methods and adopt modern strategies.

He added, “The NEP 2025 is not a stand-alone policy. It is a strategic compass aligned with Nigeria’s National Development Plan (2021–2025), ECOWAS Labour and Employment Protocols, the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the International Labour Organisation’s Future of Work Initiative.”

Dingyadi explained that the new employment policy is in full support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “At the heart of the Renewed Hope Agenda is a national commitment to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty through job creation, youth empowerment, enterprise development, digital innovation, and inclusive growth,” he said.

He added that the policy would help achieve these aims by improving access to decent work, formalising informal jobs, improving people’s skills, and supporting fast-growing sectors with high job potential.

The Minister stated that employment is not just an economic target but a means of achieving social justice, peace, and long-term growth.

He said the NEP gives a clear direction for all job-related programmes under the current administration and encourages collaboration among government bodies to ensure goals are met. It also ensures that youth, women, and people with disabilities are not left behind.

According to Dingyadi, the updated NEP includes measurable targets and a timeline to help track progress and make sure the policies are implemented effectively. He added that the policy also looks into modern sectors of the economy.

“The NEP 2025 significantly recognises the evolving shape of the Nigerian economy, integrating emerging sectors such as the Digital Economy, Blue Economy, Green Economy, and Orange Economy,” he said.

He also pointed out that the policy supports remote work. “The Policy also recognises Remote Work (Telework) as an increasingly viable and flexible mode of employment, especially for persons with disabilities, women with care responsibilities, and others facing mobility constraints.”

The Minister urged all stakeholders to join hands to make the NEP work. He said this would require political commitment, stable funding, strong institutions, and effective partnerships. He encouraged state governments to adopt the policy and adjust their job creation plans to match the national direction.

Finally, Dingyadi called on the private sector to work together with the government to develop skills training programs that respond to the real needs of the labour market.

No CDCFIB shortlisted Candidates list, beware of fake messages

August 7, 2025 – The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has made it clear that it has not started shortlisting candidates for any of the four paramilitary agencies under its supervision.

This announcement comes in response to viral messages on social media falsely claiming that a shortlist has already been released.

In an official statement, the Board said, “Dear Applicants, we are yet to commence shortlisting. The portal is still collecting applications until Monday 11th August 2025. Please note that the recruitment process is absolutely FREE at all stages. Beware of fraudsters.”

A fake email message has been making rounds, falsely informing applicants that they have been shortlisted. The fraudulent message reads:

“ATTN: Prospective Employee, You have been shortlisted as a suitable candidate after a review of your CV/application submitted recently, your name and academic discipline has been recorded successfully and this is solely sent to you for your replacement job vacancy at the CDCFIB and your consultancy clearance would determine your posting letter for employment at any of the four (4) agencies.”

The scammers then ask for a payment of ₦1,250.00, claiming it is a federal government consultancy clearance fee. The message continues:

“You are expected to make your consultancy clearance as a revenue to the federal government at the sum of NGN1,250.00 (One Thousand Two Hundred And Fifty Naira Only) with the ‘Federal Government Human Resource Consultant’ for your posting and provisional offer of appointment at the CDCFIB from an illustrative attachment: (Click Here) as your clearance of employment at the CDCFIB.”

Applicants are warned not to pay any money, as the message is fake.

The email even adds, “Note that your posting letter for the job purpose at any suitable agency of the CDCFIB is going to come up 2 weeks after the successful verification of your application and clearances made.”

The CDCFIB has advised applicants to ignore such messages and wait for official updates. It confirmed that when the official CDCFIB shortlisted candidates list for 2025 is ready, applicants will be notified through proper government communication channels.

Edo Govt, NDE Partner to Train Entrepreneurs and Create Jobs

August 6, 2025 – The Edo State Government, through the Office of the First Lady, is collaborating with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to promote entrepreneurship and boost job creation in the state.

The move is part of Governor Sen. Monday Okpebholo’s administration’s agenda to produce skillful entrepreneurs and strengthen the local economy.

The partnership was discussed during a meeting between the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Anani, and NDE delegates at the Government House in Benin City. Mrs. Anani emphasized the importance of small businesses, describing them as the backbone of every economy and a driver of sustainable development.

“Entrepreneurship is the foundation of every society. The truth is that no society can be successful without entrepreneurs. Small-scale businesses drive the economy because they start from the bottom, the grassroots level, where money circulates more freely. With more local residents involved in these businesses, we’ll have a robust Internally Generated Revenue contributing to Federal and State revenues,” she stated.

Mrs. Anani commended the Directorate for its ongoing programmes aimed at engaging youths in productive activities and keeping them away from harmful practices.

She praised the Development Graduate Attachment Programme for its role in bridging the gap between education and employment by providing work experience to graduates.

She encouraged the Directorate to increase publicity for its initiatives, particularly through radio, to reach more people and boost participation. Highlighting the role of women in societal and economic growth, Mrs. Anani stressed that empowering women has a multiplier effect, benefiting men, children, and the overall economy.

She cited the “From Farm to Table” agricultural empowerment programme as a successful initiative that motivates women to engage in small-scale farming, even in their backyards, to promote healthy eating and food security.

The programme supports women by providing farming tools and seeds and offers a ₦1 million prize for the woman with the best home farm.

On his part, the State Coordinator of NDE, Mr. James Ikanoba, highlighted the agency’s achievements in tackling skills gaps and addressing unemployment through various targeted programmes.

“We’ve tackled various areas, catering for diverse groups, including those with or without formal education, students in primary, secondary, and higher institutions, and retirees. We’ve designed numerous programmes to meet the Council’s needs. We’ve conducted extensive trainings over the years,” he said.

Mr. Ikanoba outlined several initiatives aimed at empowering individuals in agriculture, vocational skills, small-scale industries, and infrastructure development. These programmes, he noted, are designed to reach youth, women, and retirees by providing training, job experience, and ongoing support.

He announced the NDE’s recent launch of online recruitment for the second phase of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative. Registration, which began on July 28, 2025, and will end on August 11, 2025, offers opportunities in four key areas: the Rural Employment Promotion Programme, the Small Scale Enterprises Programme, the Vocational Skills Development Programme, and the Special Public Works Programme.

The Senior Information Officer of the NDE, Mr. Oluchi Okuone, added that job creation efforts go beyond white-collar jobs to include support for artisans, small-scale industries, and informal sector workers, who play a vital role in the economy.

According to him, “The Government is taking a cue from countries like Singapore and China to support these sectors through programmes like Vocational Skills Development and Small-Scale Enterprise Initiatives.” He emphasized that supporting small-scale businesses not only promotes innovation but also contributes to the economic resilience of communities.

The collaboration between the Edo State Government and the NDE aims to combine resources and expertise to strengthen entrepreneurship, reduce unemployment, and foster sustainable economic growth.

The initiatives will particularly focus on equipping young people and women with relevant skills, providing financial empowerment opportunities, and enhancing the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

Mrs. Anani expressed optimism that with increased awareness, more residents will take advantage of these programmes to start and grow their own businesses, leading to broader economic benefits for Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.

Akwa Ibom Govt Disburses N50,000 Monthly Stipends to 600 Elderly

0

August 6, 2025 – The Akwa Ibom State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to the welfare of senior citizens through the continued disbursement of monthly stipends to beneficiaries across the state.

During the official ceremony held at the Government House Banquet Hall, Uyo, on Wednesday, August 6, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Emem Ibanga, praised Governor Umo Eno for his compassionate and visionary leadership, particularly in prioritizing the needs of the elderly under the ARISE Initiative for the Elderly.

She stated that 50,000 naira monthly stipends are being paid to 600 elderly citizens drawn from all 31 local government areas of the state. This, she explained, is part of ongoing efforts to provide consistent financial support and improve the quality of life for older residents.

“This initiative is a token of our gratitude and a promise that their golden years will be dignified and secured. The Governor has continued to set a new standard in governance that is rooted in compassion and inclusivity,” Hon. Ibanga said.

The Commissioner stressed that the programme is more than just a welfare scheme, describing it as a tangible expression of the government’s respect for the contributions of the elderly to the growth and development of Akwa Ibom State.

She also highlighted other key interventions in the Humanitarian sector of the ARISE Agenda, including the upcoming ARISE Senior Citizens Centre, which will provide recreation, healthcare, and social support for elderly citizens.

She listed additional initiatives such as regular welfare programmes, the Health Insurance Scheme for the elderly, food distribution, community engagement projects, and strategic collaboration with local government councils to ensure services reach beneficiaries in all locations.

While addressing the senior citizens, Hon. Ibanga assured them of the administration’s continued commitment to their well-being. “You are not forgotten. This government sees you, hears you, and will continue to stand by you,” she said.

She also called on families and communities to follow the Governor’s example by caring for and supporting the elderly. “Small acts of kindness multiply into lasting impact,” she added.

The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Obareki, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Inibehe Etukudo, commended the Governor for the programme.

She described it as a compassionate and inspiring intervention that has restored hope to elderly citizens. She further noted that old age is a divine gift that must be treasured and praised the Governor’s inclusive approach to governance as worthy of emulation.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the ARISE Initiative for the Elderly, Mrs. Mercy Eka, revealed that more than 6,000 elderly persons have already benefited from the programme, with an additional 1,200 set to receive stipends, bringing the total to 7,200 beneficiaries across the state.

She confirmed that each beneficiary receives a monthly payment of ₦50,000.

Mrs. Eka also announced that the Governor has approved free registration of senior citizens under the Arise Care Health Insurance Scheme, giving them access to quality healthcare without cost. She said the initiative continues to rekindle hope among elderly citizens and is a clear reflection of the Governor’s compassion and dedication to inclusive welfare.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the Wife of the APC State Chairman, Mrs. Ini Ntukekpo, and the Chairman of the State Secondary Education Board, Dr. Ekaette Okon, both of whom praised the Governor for his consistent support of the elderly. They remarked that such a level of welfare commitment is unprecedented in the state’s history.

Other speakers included Dr. Edikan Ekwere, who presented details of the Arise Care programme, and Elder Victor Akpan, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries to express their gratitude for what they described as a life-changing initiative.

The event was attended by the Wife of the Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Uduak Essien, Honorary Special Advisers, Permanent Secretaries, wives of Commissioners, Vice Chairmen of local councils, members of the WALGON body, traditional rulers, community leaders, and elderly beneficiaries from various local government areas of Akwa Ibom State.

This welfare initiative, in addition to providing financial stipends, incorporates healthcare coverage, community engagement, and social support systems.

It aligns with the state government’s broader strategy to improve quality of life for citizens, reduce poverty levels, and promote inclusive governance in line with high-value public welfare policies.

The monthly stipends, healthcare insurance, and community programmes under the ARISE Initiative for the Elderly remain a strong social protection model in Nigeria, ensuring that senior citizens are respected, supported, and empowered within their communities.

PAP Warns Against Payment for 2025/2026 Scholarship Application

0

August 6, 2025 – The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, has raised concern over reports that some stakeholders are allegedly collecting money from unsuspecting applicants during the ongoing scholarship application process for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Speaking at the opening of the third batch of the three-day Strategic Leadership, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation Training for PAP stakeholders, organised in collaboration with the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja, on Wednesday, Otuaro warned that the act is fraudulent and unacceptable.

According to him, “I have received reports alleging some stakeholders collect money from applicants, parents and guardians with fake promises concerning the ongoing scholarship application process for the 2025/2026 academic year. For the avoidance of doubt, the scholarship application process is free. No one should collect money from anybody; nobody should encourage someone to collect or give money to anybody for the scholarship exercise. It is free.”

He urged potential beneficiaries to resist paying any amount to anyone for the scholarship, emphasising that the application process for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes remains completely free and must be conducted only through the official PAP portal.

He assured applicants that all processes would be handled fairly, maintaining that the purpose of the scheme will not be derailed by unscrupulous individuals.

“The scholarship programme is a deliberate scheme for our people for a better tomorrow, it is not for our today. My leadership is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability even in the management of the scholarship award process,” he said.

Otuaro described the alleged actions of those involved in the collection of money as regrettable and a dent on the integrity of the scholarship application process.

He cautioned those engaging in the illicit act to desist immediately, warning that anyone caught attempting to exploit the scheme for extortion would face strict consequences.

“We will take drastic steps against anyone attempting to divert the opportunity of the scheme to swindle innocent people,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of the scholarship scheme, Otuaro explained that it is designed to increase Niger Delta youths’ access to higher education and strengthen human capital development in the region.

He reiterated that the PAP will not allow anyone to compromise the integrity of the application process, assuring that all qualified candidates will be given equal opportunity.

Addressing the participants of the training workshop, Otuaro noted that the programme was aimed at deepening their knowledge on leadership, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution to enable them to perform better as PAP’s peace ambassadors in their communities and across the Niger Delta.

“You are, in fact, also peace ambassadors of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, GCFR. Therefore, you are expected to deploy the knowledge you would gain from this training to strengthen the ongoing peacebuilding process of PAP because the development of the region is in the priority agenda of the President,” Otuaro said.

He encouraged all stakeholders to take the training seriously, stressing that it is crucial for the achievement of peace, stability, and development in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Otuaro restated that all applicants must apply through the PAP portal and wait for official communication from the office. He appealed to community leaders, parents, and guardians to help discourage the payment of money for scholarships, warning that such actions undermine the credibility of the process and harm the programme’s goal of supporting genuine beneficiaries.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s determination to uphold transparency in the management of the PAP scholarship awards and ensure that the programme delivers on its objective of creating educational and developmental opportunities for the Niger Delta youth.
