Abia Launches ABSIID Project for Infrastructure, Jobs, Others

The Abia State Government has formally launched the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development (ABSIID) project, an initiative that aligns with the state’s vision to solve long-standing infrastructure problems using modern and scalable strategies.

According to Governor Dr. Alex C. Otti (OFR), “ABSIID represents a vision that connects farms to markets, transforms dreams into ventures, and translates promises into tangible realities.”

This new infrastructure project is designed to improve road networks, enhance waste management, and address environmental threats like gully erosion that affect local communities and economies.

The ABSIID project focuses on building stronger links between urban and rural areas, with the goal of boosting economic activity, especially in agriculture, transportation, and light manufacturing.

The improved roads will make it easier for farmers to move their products to market, while the better waste management systems are expected to create a healthier and cleaner living environment. Tackling gully erosion is also a major part of the plan, as it protects both people and infrastructure.

Governor Otti also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its support. “We acknowledge the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edun, represented by Dr. Oyadele Akande,” he stated.

The project is backed by international financial institutions. “We extend heartfelt gratitude to our multilateral partners; the African Development Bank (AfDB) represented by their Director General, Dr Abdul Kamal, and other esteemed representatives of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and the Canada-Africa Development Bank Climate Fund (CACF) for their confidence in our development trajectory,” the governor added.

In a closing statement, Governor Otti reassured the public: “As custodians of public trust, we reaffirm our commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and the judicious application of all resources channelled into this transformative endeavour.”
