The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), through its Gender Affairs Department, has partnered with the Women in Leadership Advancement Network, Women in Management, Business and Public Service, and Women in Successful Careers to launch the Nigeria Women in Leadership (WiL) Coalition.

According to the NGF, the coalition aims for 35 percent representation of women on corporate boards, in executive roles, and across federal and state cabinets. “Our goal is to create pathways for women to lead and influence,” the Forum stated.

The coalition is also pushing for better workplace policies, including 16 weeks of paid maternity leave and 14 days of paid paternity leave. Leaders say this will allow women to advance in their careers while maintaining family balance.

“The NGF is driving the domestication of the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) policy across the 36 states, ensuring that women have the tools, resources, and enabling environment to thrive,” the statement added.

The WiL Coalition has committed to advancing women’s leadership in all sectors of Nigeria by elevating women’s voices in governance, business, and civil society. It will also expand opportunities for women in decision-making while driving inclusive and sustainable national development.

“As a key partner, the NGF will continue to champion gender-responsive reforms that strengthen equality and foster balanced leadership at both state and national levels,” the Forum said.

Here are five things to know about the WiL Coalition: it elevates women’s voices, expands decision-making opportunities, drives empowerment, promotes national development, and supports inclusive leadership.
