A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, has partnered with National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to deliver a digital literacy and empowerment programme targeted at unemployed youths in Oyo State.
The initiative, which forms part of ongoing efforts to address youth unemployment and deepen digital inclusion, brought together 210 beneficiaries selected from across the state. It was structured in two phases, beginning with a virtual training held between April 13 and April 17, 2026, and followed by an in-person, hands-on session scheduled from April 20 to April 24, 2026.
Speaking through his Senior Legislative Assistant, Hon. Kunle Folarin, Olajide emphasised the urgency of equipping young people with relevant digital skills. He said the programme was designed to “bridge the digital divide and create sustainable opportunities for youths within the constituency and beyond.”
According to him, the training goes beyond theory, focusing on practical applications that prepare participants for opportunities in remote work, digital marketing, and other technology-driven ventures. “This is about positioning our youths to compete in a rapidly evolving global economy,” he noted.
To support post-training outcomes, the lawmaker disclosed that beneficiaries would receive laptops and financial support to enable them transition into productive ventures. The intervention, he added, aligns with broader efforts to improve employability and stimulate entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
Participants described the programme as timely, citing rising unemployment and limited access to digital resources as key challenges. Several attendees noted that the initiative provides not just skills, but a pathway to economic independence.
The collaboration with NITDA underscores increasing alignment between public sector actors and federal agencies in driving digital capacity development, particularly among underserved youth populations.
