Over 520 women in Rivers State have successfully completed a three-month skills acquisition and empowerment programme facilitated by the State Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with Christ Embassy Convention Grounds Group, Port Harcourt.
The initiative, which commenced in late January 2026 at the Women’s Skills Acquisition Centre within the Ministry’s complex, was designed to equip participants with practical, income-generating skills to enhance economic independence and self-reliance.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ihuoma P. Ray-Boms, commended the Rivers State Government for its sustained commitment to women-focused development. She specifically acknowledged Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his wife, Lady Valerie Fubara, for prioritising policies and programmes that improve the socio-economic well-being of women.
She noted that the Ministry remains focused on delivering initiatives that elevate the value of women in society, stressing that its mandate centres on creating measurable impact through empowerment and support systems.
Ray-Boms also expressed appreciation to Christ Embassy Convention Grounds Group for leveraging the partnership to deliver structured and impactful training across multiple vocational areas.
In his remarks, the programme facilitator, Pastor Isaac Mark, congratulated the participants on completing the training and highlighted the organisation’s commitment to community outreach.
“For us at Christ Embassy Convention Grounds, Port Harcourt, DSP Region, we are deeply passionate about reaching out to those in need,” he said.
He explained that beyond vocational skills, participants were exposed to teachings centred on personal development, prosperity, peace, and good health, adding that the holistic approach was intended to ensure long-term impact.
Pastor Mark further announced the provision of starter packs to beneficiaries to enable them to immediately commence their businesses.
Also speaking, Pastor Earldon Daniel expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the participants, noting that the experience contributed to his personal growth.
The training programme covered a broad range of vocational areas including tailoring, soap making, shoe production, perfume making, catering, and facilitated access to business grants.
A key highlight of the event was the distribution of starter packs such as sewing machines, baking equipment, and pressing irons to participants. The items were presented by the Permanent Secretary alongside representatives of Christ Embassy.
The programme underscores ongoing efforts by the Rivers State Government to strengthen grassroots economic participation and expand opportunities for women through structured empowerment initiatives.
