The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, has approved a comprehensive Youth Agribusiness Training Programme for indigenes of Rivers State, scheduled to commence from January 19, 2026, as part of efforts to empower youths, boost food security, and support sustainable economic growth across the state.

The approval was announced in a statement released on Monday and signed by the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture, Engr. Victor Kii. According to the statement, the programme is targeted at young people in Rivers State who have interest and passion for agriculture and agribusiness.

Engr. Kii stated that the initiative is designed to equip participating youths with practical skills, modern knowledge, and entrepreneurial capacity across several agricultural value chains. These include crop production, livestock farming, aquaculture, agro-processing, agribusiness management, and agricultural technology.

He explained that the programme aligns with the governor’s vision of youth empowerment, job creation, and economic diversification, while repositioning agriculture as a viable and profitable sector for young people in the state.

“The programme will provide hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to modern agribusiness practices aimed at enabling participants to become self-reliant and productive contributors to the state’s economy,” the statement said.

It added that the initiative will also encourage innovation, value addition, and the development of market-driven agricultural enterprises.

The Rivers State Government urged interested youths with genuine interest in agriculture to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that the programme reaffirms its commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and building a resilient future.

The training will run from January 19 to 29, 2026, at the School-to-Land Authority, Rumuodomaya, Centre of Excellence, Obio-Akpor, with daily sessions starting at 12pm.
