The Degema Local Government Area (DELGA) in Rivers State has commenced the enumeration phase of the State Social Register Expansion Programme aimed at identifying vulnerable households for government social intervention programmes.

Chairman of DELGA, Hon. Michael John Williams, gave the assurance of the council’s support while receiving members of the Community-Based Targeting Team (CBTT) during a courtesy visit to the Council Secretariat in Degema.

The CBTT delegation was led by the Desk Officer and Team Lead, Great Grace, who introduced the enumerators assigned to carry out the exercise across communities in the local government area.

Grace explained that the programme would involve house-to-house sensitization and data collection to ensure eligible households are captured in the social register.

She appealed to the council chairman to support the team to ensure the smooth implementation of the exercise across DELGA.

Responding, Hon. Williams said his administration would work closely with the CBTT throughout the process, noting that the programme aligns with the council’s commitment to improving the welfare of residents, especially vulnerable persons and low-income households.

“We are ready to support every initiative that will positively impact our people and improve their living conditions,” he said.

The State Social Register Expansion Programme is designed to strengthen access to government social protection and intervention programmes for eligible households across Rivers State.
