Applicants under the Youth and Students in Innovation (YSI) Programme have started receiving updates on their claimed places, with some receiving selection emails while others have been informed that no place was available.
The development follows an earlier notice by the federal government asking applicants to claim available places in the programme, an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology designed to equip young Nigerians with relevant skills, knowledge and opportunities to develop innovative solutions.
In an email sent to an applicant, the programme confirmed selection into Cohort 1 of the YSI Programme. The message congratulated the recipient and stated that the selection reflected their potential to participate in the initiative.
However, another applicant received a different response after attempting to claim a place in the Agritech and Agribusiness Innovation category.
The rejection email, titled “No place came free this time,” explained that the round had closed before a place became available. The programme apologised for being unable to offer the applicant a place and stated that no further action was required.
The different responses indicate that claiming a place did not automatically guarantee selection. Applicants who attempted to secure available slots are therefore advised to check their inboxes for updates on their individual status.
The messages also show that outcomes may vary depending on the availability of places in specific categories. Applicants who received rejection notices should carefully read the information provided rather than assume that further action is necessary.
How to check
Applicants who recently claimed a place in the YSI Programme should check the email address they used during the application process. They should look through their inbox and spam or junk folders for messages from the programme.
Those who have questions can contact the YSI team through ysi@scienceandtech.gov.ng.
