ZEGCAWIS has announced the launch of the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Nigeria Project, an intervention aimed at strengthening women’s roles in countering violent extremism and improving community-based protection systems in Borno State.

The initiative is being implemented with support from ActionAid Nigeria and Global Affairs Canada (GAC), and is designed to enhance access to life-saving information, particularly around early warning signs of explosive hazards and reporting mechanisms. It also targets immediate humanitarian support for households affected by recent explosions in Maiduguri.

According to the organisation, the project will be delivered in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Borno State Police Force, with a focus on directly supporting 50 vulnerable women and affected households.

ZEGCAWIS stated that beyond direct support, the programme will train 20 community women’s groups on identifying early warning signs of explosive hazards and how to report such threats effectively. Weekly sensitisation sessions will also be conducted across communities, led by the women’s wings of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Borno State.

“The project is designed to ensure that women are not only protected but are also positioned as key actors in community safety and early response systems,” the organisation said.

In addition, public awareness campaigns will be deployed through Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials and strategically placed billboards across Maiduguri to reinforce knowledge on risk identification and reporting channels.

ZEGCAWIS noted that the RWVL Nigeria Project reflects its broader commitment to advancing gender equality, strengthening humanitarian response frameworks, and building resilient community protection systems that prioritise women’s voices and leadership.
