The federal government has announced plans to open a farmers registry that will capture the size and location of farms across the country to improve identification and traceability of produce. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, revealed this in Maiduguri, Borno State, saying the project will be created in partnership with the National Identity Management Commission.
Kyari stated that the registry “will serve as a window to identify and evaluate farmers eligible for government interventions,” highlighting its role in improving food security and economic development.
During the visit, the ministry distributed farming equipment to smallholder farmers, vulnerable groups, and farmers’ associations in Borno State. According to Kyari, the support aims to reduce production costs and boost overall productivity for farmers in need today.
