Residents of Sokoto State are preparing for a major financial support program as the Federal Government launches a new intervention designed to reach 244,000 beneficiaries across the state’s 244 wards. The initiative, backed by the All Progressives Congress administration, will provide assistance to 1,000 people from each ward to reduce financial hardship and strengthen community welfare.

During a stakeholders meeting held in the Gawon Nama area, Governor Ahmed Aliyu thanked the Federal Government for what he described as a timely and impactful step. He noted that Sokoto continues to stand out among other states in Nigeria because of its strong commitment to improving the living conditions of its citizens.

The Governor acknowledged the steady support of APC leader Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, crediting him for consistent guidance in pushing development efforts forward. He said the new program was structured to ensure a fair distribution of Federal Government resources, especially for individuals who have not benefited from earlier social support schemes.

“Each citizen deserves to feel the impact of government efforts, particularly in a period of economic difficulty. Our goal is to reach out to those who have not enrolled in previous programs,” Governor Aliyu stated. He explained that the intervention will be a one-time opportunity so that only new applicants will be considered, preventing duplicate assistance.

He added that a committee will be formed to identify eligible beneficiaries in all wards. The program is expected to take off in January of the coming year, marking what the Governor described as an important move toward expanding social welfare and supporting families in need across Sokoto State.

Governor Aliyu also urged community leaders and stakeholders to remain active in local governance and ensure that citizens are fully aware of ongoing development activities. He said the Projects Monitoring Committee will continue to follow up on work happening across different communities to keep the public informed and involved.

Senator Wamakko, while speaking at the meeting, praised the Governor for maintaining a strong focus on empowering residents. He emphasized that fairness must guide the distribution of the new intervention forms and urged party leaders to strengthen unity within the APC while reaching out to supporters across the state.

“This is not the first time we see such impactful initiatives from the Governor. We must continue to work together to ensure that responsible and competent individuals are the ones benefiting from these programs,” Senator Wamakko said. He also expressed confidence that local governments in Sokoto will soon feel the results of pending fund releases for several developmental projects.

As Sokoto prepares for the rollout of this major intervention, expectations are high among residents who hope the program will ease financial pressure and encourage community growth. Many citizens see the initiative as a welcome development that aligns with wider national efforts to promote economic stability.

In an overview of the initiative, Hon. Haruna Sarkin Gobir Adiya, coordinator of the Renewed Hope Agenda in the state, briefed stakeholders on the structure and purpose of the Federal Government’s special intervention. He explained that more than 244,000 people are targeted across all 244 wards, ensuring that loyal party members and interested citizens are captured.

Adiya said a data form has already been released to help shortlisted citizens register for the program, noting that transparency and proper record-keeping will guide the selection process. He stressed that the initiative represents an opportunity for residents and urged them to participate actively as preparations move forward in the coming weeks just ahead.
