The Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa (GPFA) Scholarship has opened applications for the 2025/2026 academic year, offering a fully supported education opportunity for eligible students across Africa and beyond. The scholarship is part of GPFA’s broader education programme focused on supporting underprivileged girls, youth, and children, including those with special needs, by improving access to quality education.

The GPFA Scholarship is commonly described as a “360-degree” or fully supported scholarship. It is structured to remove financial barriers that often limit access to education and to allow beneficiaries to focus fully on their academic work, leadership development, and personal growth.

According to details released by GPFA, the application window opened in December 2025 and will close on January 8, 2026. The study period covers the 2025/2026 academic session, and the foundation has stressed that late or incomplete applications will not be considered under any circumstances.

The scholarship package includes full tuition support, a semester allowance, internship opportunities, and accommodation support for boarding students. GPFA explained that the scholarship is designed to cover both academic and welfare needs, with the level of support depending on the applicant’s category and study arrangement.

Eligibility for the GPFA Scholarship is grouped into four main applicant categories. These are TVET students under Technical and Vocational Education and Training, high school graduates, local university students, and international students. However, GPFA noted that for the current intake, priority is being given to university students and TVET students only.

General eligibility conditions require applicants to have secured admission into an eligible institution in Liberia before applying. Applicants must also meet the academic and documentation requirements specific to their category, while strong character, motivation, leadership qualities, and community involvement are considered during the selection process.

For university students, required documents include a 600-word motivational essay, a previous semester grade sheet with a minimum GPA of 3.5, and two letters of recommendation from the Head of Department at the university and a community or religious institution. High school graduates are expected to provide an admission letter from a preferred institution, WAEC or WASSCE certificate, official high school transcripts with at least an 80 percent average, a high school diploma, two letters of recommendation, and a motivational essay.

TVET applicants must submit an admission letter from a preferred TVET institution, two letters of recommendation from school and community or religious leaders, and a motivational essay. Technical Vocational Education Training applicants are also required to provide an admission letter, two recommendation letters, and motivational essays.

GPFA emphasized that all applicants must gain admission into an institution in Liberia before applying and reiterated that the current intake focuses only on university and TVET students. Selection, according to the foundation, is based on academic merit, motivation, leadership potential, and community impact, while incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Addressing nationality concerns, GPFA stated that Nigerians can apply. The scholarship is not restricted by nationality, and Nigerian and other international applicants are eligible as long as they meet all requirements and have secured admission into an eligible institution in Liberia. Nationality does not disqualify applicants, as study location and eligibility compliance matter most.

The foundation confirmed that the GPFA Scholarship is fully funded and that there is no application fee. Interested applicants are required to apply online through the official application portal before the January 8, 2026 deadline.
