Idem announces scholarship for 200 students in Akwa Ibom constituency

The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Unyime Idem, has announced a scholarship programme for 200 students across undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. levels for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Idem, who also chairs the House Committee on Public Procurement, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the initiative is aimed at supporting the educational advancement of constituents studying in federal universities across Nigeria.

According to the statement, the scholarship, under the Unyime Idem Education Scholarship Programme, will cover tuition, accommodation and living expenses for successful applicants.

The lawmaker stated that only indigenes of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency studying full-time in federal universities are eligible to apply.

He added that the programme is open to students in disciplines such as sciences, engineering, economics, accounting, law, and computer science or engineering.

For undergraduate applicants, eligibility is limited to students from 200 level and above, who must present academic transcripts, admission letters, valid student identification, school fee receipts, and O’Level results with at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

Applicants for Master’s and Ph.D. programmes are also required to provide proof of full-time admission, academic qualifications not below Second Class Lower, NYSC discharge or exemption certificates, and other relevant credentials.

In addition, all applicants are to submit a personal statement of at least 1,000 words, while Ph.D. candidates must include a research proposal not exceeding six pages.

The statement further indicated that applications must be submitted physically in a sealed envelope at the Unyime Idem Skills Acquisition Centre, located at No. 3 Barracks Road, Ukanafun Local Government Area.

The application window opens on March 29, 2026, and closes on April 12, 2026.

The lawmaker advised interested candidates to contact designated officials for enquiries and noted that final selection would be based on the outlined criteria and his discretion.

He also stated that the scholarship would not cover cases of deferment, change of institution, or course of study.
