The Anambra State Government has approved the third batch of its One Youth Two Skills empowerment programme, targeting 20,000 youths for vocational training and business support.

Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr Law Mefor, disclosed this following the 17th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), held on November 5.

He said the programme, championed by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, had trained and empowered between 13,000 and 14,000 beneficiaries across its first two batches.

According to Mefor, participants receive free vocational training and seed money to purchase tools and establish businesses after completing their chosen courses.

The programme offers more than 60 skill areas, including agriculture and information and communication technology (ICT). Beneficiaries also receive mentorship, monitoring and business guidance to help them sustain their enterprises.

Mefor said approximately 5,000 beneficiaries from the first two batches had become millionaires, while about 1,000 others were now training and empowering people in their communities.

He described the programme as part of the state government’s efforts to reduce unemployment, strengthen the economy and provide young people with opportunities to become financially independent.

Following the reported achievements, ANSEC approved the third batch, which will accommodate another 20,000 participants.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports is expected to announce the eligibility requirements and other details for interested applicants.
