The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology has opened applications for the 2026 cohort of the Youth and Students in Innovation initiative, known as YSI.

The programme is designed to equip Nigerian youths with practical digital, artificial intelligence and innovation skills through structured learning, physical engagement and mentorship. It targets young people interested in technology, digital skills, innovation and entrepreneurship.
According to the programme information, participants will undergo three weeks of virtual learning followed by a three-day physical engagement. The programme also includes mentorship, certification, alumni and community opportunities, as well as an opportunity desk for jobs, pitches and potential funding pathways.
Applicants can choose one of eight specialised tracks based on their interests. They include Innovation Branding, Digital Content and Science Communication; Software, Web and AI Innovation Development; Data Analytics and Innovation Project Management; Agritech and Agribusiness Innovation; Green/Renewable Energy and Climate Innovation; HealthTech and Biotechnology Innovation; Manufacturing, Hardware and Maker Innovation; and FinTech and Digital Financial Innovation.
The programme also offers participants an opportunity to develop solutions and connect with people working in innovation. Its specialised tracks cover areas ranging from software and artificial intelligence to agriculture, renewable energy, healthcare, manufacturing and financial technology. This broad range allows applicants to select a field that matches their interests, skills and goals. The initiative focuses on building capabilities for emerging innovators.

Requirements
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens aged 18 to 35 years, have a valid photo identification document and have access to a smartphone or laptop.
