This was disclosed in an official notification issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development, dated 23 March 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the Forum of Local Government Chairmen in Yakurr LGA.

According to the Ministry, a total of 54 tractors were delivered in the first phase of the programme by Bespoke Design Concept Nig. Ltd and subsequently distributed to approved beneficiary cooperative groups, identified as MPCS (Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies), across various LGAs.

“I write to formally inform you of the current locations of the tractors deployed under the Tractor Acquisition Scheme and their respective beneficiaries across the Local Government Areas,” the letter stated.

The deployment covers multiple LGAs including Ogoja, Yala, Obudu, Obubra, Ikom, Akpabuyo, Bekwarra, Biase, Boki, Calabar South, Etung, and Obanliku, among others. Each tractor has been assigned to specific MPCS groups, with detailed records capturing exact locations, chassis numbers, plate numbers, and contact phone numbers for accountability and tracking.

For instance, in Ogoja LGA, beneficiaries include Efizor Ochuweh MPCS, Annebantop MPCS, and Marvellous Farm MPCS, while Yala LGA features cooperatives such as Akpana MPCS, Anya Alo’oh MPCS, and O’oh Women MPCS. Similar allocations were recorded across other LGAs, including specialised groups like Coffee and Tea Farmers MPCS in Etung and Buya Rice Farmers MPCS in Obanliku.

The Ministry noted that the tractors have been strategically allocated to enhance mechanised farming, improve agricultural output, and strengthen value chains within benefiting communities.

“In view of the above, you are kindly requested to communicate with all Local Government Chairmen to follow up and ensure that the tractors are physically present and operational in their assigned locations within their jurisdictions,” the Ministry stated.

It added that the follow-up process is critical to ensuring accountability, proper utilisation, and effective monitoring of the equipment.

Officials further emphasised that the success and sustainability of the scheme will depend on prompt action and cooperation from local authorities, particularly in verifying deployment and supporting beneficiary cooperatives.

Nigeria Startup News reports that the Tractor Acquisition Scheme forms part of broader efforts by the Cross River State Government to modernise agriculture, attract investment, and position the state as a competitive agro-industrial hub.
