Ekiti State Government has begun the onboarding process for the 3rd Cohort of the Ekiti Broilers Production Scheme, a programme the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, described as a major youth empowerment initiative supporting young people interested in poultry farming. He stated that the recruitment exercise has started, including screening, examinations, and onboarding of qualified applicants.

According to the Commissioner, a total of 250 youths will join the new cohort and will be deployed across nine clusters located in Erinfun, Ikole, Ilupeju, Ido, Ado Ekiti Technical College, Ode, Efon, Ikere and Igede. He explained that the scheme aims to boost agricultural development, poultry production, agribusiness opportunities and overall food security in the State.

Boluwade revealed that contracts have been awarded for the construction of 20,000-capacity poultry pens in Ado, Ikole and Emure Ekiti to expand infrastructure and support high-volume production. He added that the government is targeting over 100,000 birds per production cycle by 2026.

He noted that this target aligns with the ongoing development of the State’s Poultry Processing Plant, which will support large-scale processing and value addition. The Commissioner confirmed that a one-day onboarding programme for the new cohort will take place on Monday, 17th November 2025 at 9:00 a.m.
