The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched a new Drone Registration Portal aimed at improving the regulation, monitoring, and safe operation of drones across Nigeria.
The platform, officially unveiled during the 6th Africa International Drone Technology Conference and Exhibition (Dronetecx 2026) in Lagos, is expected to support the growing use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in the country.
Speaking at the event, Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, said the portal would help Nigeria manage the increasing number of drone users and operators while creating a clearer structure for the industry.
According to him, the initiative is designed to curb uncontrolled drone proliferation, manage the rapid growth of recreational drone usage, and provide a proper roadmap for the future of drone technology in Nigeria.
“The idea is to provide comprehensive direction for the industry and establish a clear role for all stakeholders in making Nigeria a major player in the sector,” Najomo said.
He noted that the approval by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, made it possible for the NCAA to begin developing a policy framework and roadmap for drone operations in Nigeria.
Najomo added that the framework aligns with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Nigeria Civil Aviation Master Plan (CAMP) and supports the existing Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs Part 21).
He also commended Dronetecx 2026 convener, Fortune Idu, and other stakeholders for supporting policies that encourage safer drone operations.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mahmud Adam Kambari, represented by Director of Air Safety Administration, Rabiat Tukur Ali, said the new framework would improve access to UAS technology and support innovation in the aviation sector.
