The Jigawa State Government is advancing plans to strengthen poultry production through a strategic partnership with India-based Srinivasa Farms Pvt. Ltd., in a move aimed at expanding agricultural investment, creating jobs, and improving incomes for poultry farmers across the state.

The development follows the visit of a high-level technical delegation from Srinivasa Farms, led by its Vice President, Mr. Senthil Kumar Krishnan, to Government House, Dutse, where the team was received by Governor Umar Namadi over the weekend.

The visit is part of ongoing engagements initiated during Jigawa State’s investment mission to India in May 2025, where discussions began on potential agricultural partnerships, particularly in poultry development.

Four-day technical assessment underway

As part of its visit, the Indian delegation has commenced a four-day technical assessment tour across Kazaure, Gumel, Hadejia, and Dutse to evaluate poultry opportunities in the state.

The assessment includes inspections of both private and government-owned poultry facilities, consultations with local farmers, and feasibility reviews for proposed joint projects such as the establishment of a modern hatchery and poultry feed mill.

Governor Namadi described the planned collaboration as a major milestone in the state’s agricultural transformation agenda, noting that it aligns with his administration’s broader strategy to industrialise the livestock and poultry value chain.

According to him, the partnership is expected to stimulate youth employment, increase internally generated revenue, and improve livelihoods in rural communities where poultry farming remains a major economic activity.

“This is a return visit following our earlier engagement in India, where we explored partnerships in several areas, including poultry development. This is the fourth group from India visiting us as a direct outcome of that trip,” the governor said.

State targets integrated poultry value chain

Governor Namadi said the state is focused on building a sustainable poultry ecosystem that supports farmers beyond production alone.

He noted that Jigawa is prioritising investments in hatchery infrastructure, feed production, farmer training, and technology transfer to ensure that poultry farmers gain access to modern production systems and higher-yield practices.

The governor added that outcomes from the India investment mission are already materialising in other agricultural segments, including seed production agreements with CornTech and partnerships involving Agrighar in agribusiness and dairy development.

“Today, we are pleased to receive representatives of Srinivasa, a major poultry company in India. You have seen our environment, assessed our potential, and we believe this collaboration will significantly improve poultry production and increase farmers’ incomes,” he said.

Srinivasa sees strong commercial potential in Jigawa

In his presentation, Krishnan said Srinivasa Farms brings more than six decades of poultry industry experience, with operations covering hatchery management, feed production, egg production, and integrated poultry systems across multiple countries.

He said the company’s preliminary findings indicate strong partnership potential in Jigawa due to similarities in climate and agricultural conditions between the state and several poultry-producing regions in India.

According to him, the proposed model will support small and medium-scale poultry farmers through access to quality chicks, affordable feed, veterinary services, and structured market linkages.

He added that the partnership would also introduce modern poultry techniques, strengthen biosecurity standards, reduce production losses, and improve the consistency of egg and poultry meat supply across the state.

For Jigawa, the partnership signals a deliberate shift toward building a commercially viable poultry industry capable of attracting foreign expertise while expanding local agricultural productivity.
