President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed that the new tax laws introduced by his administration will proceed as scheduled. The President made this known in a statement released by the State House on Tuesday.

Tinubu said the tax laws that took effect on June 26, 2025, and the remaining acts set to begin on January 1, 2026, will continue without disruption. He described the reforms as “a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a fair, competitive, and robust fiscal foundation for our country.”

The President explained that the tax laws were not intended to increase taxes but to “support a structural reset, drive harmonisation, and protect dignity while strengthening the social contract.” He urged all stakeholders to support the implementation phase, which he said “is now firmly in the delivery stage.”

Tinubu also addressed public discussions about alleged changes to certain provisions of the newly enacted tax laws, saying, “No substantial issue has been established that warrants a disruption of the reform process. Absolute trust is built over time through making the right decisions, not through premature, reactive measures.”

Reassuring Nigerians of transparency and accountability, the President stated, “Our administration’s unwavering commitment to due process and the integrity of enacted laws remains firm. The Presidency pledges to work with the National Assembly to ensure the swift resolution of any issue identified.”

He added that the Federal Government would continue to act in the “overriding public interest” to create a tax system that supports prosperity and shared responsibility across the country.
