The Akwa Ibom State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has commenced an enumeration exercise to identify farmers who may benefit from the FarmerMoni intervention under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP).

The exercise is being coordinated through the state Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and includes training for Local Government Area (LGA) Desk Officers. It is intended to document eligible smallholder farmers across the state.

FarmerMoni is a Federal Government intervention designed to provide financial support to smallholder farmers. GEEP is implemented through the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).

At the flag-off ceremony held on Monday, October 26, 2026, in Uyo, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s administration and Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.

Ibanga said the intervention could help extend economic support to farmers in remote communities, including persons with disabilities. She said supporting farmers is important to protecting livelihoods and strengthening food security.

The Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working with the Federal Government on social investment programmes.

Umanah said smallholder farmers could benefit from support that helps improve yields and farming activities. He also stressed that farmers need clear information about the programme.

According to Umanah, FarmerMoni complements the agricultural revolution component of the ARISE Agenda.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor, pledged continued cooperation from her ministry. She said the intervention would be implemented in phases and urged beneficiaries to use any funds received for their intended agricultural purposes.

The South-South Zonal Coordinator of GEEP, Akanimo Effiong, said the exercise reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting grassroots livelihoods and food production. He explained that GEEP provides financial support to petty traders, market women, artisans and smallholder farmers.

The state’s Permanent Secretary for Human Capital Development and State Statistician-General, Uduak Isaac, said the enumeration and training exercise would improve coordination across Akwa Ibom’s 31 local government areas.

During the event, Local Government Desk Officers received iPads and portable power banks. Goodwill messages were also delivered by the Programme Manager of the Akwa Ibom State Agricultural Development Programme (AKADEP), Emmanuel Ekanem, and Philomena Bassey of the All Farmers Association.

Who may qualify?

The current exercise is focused on identifying and documenting eligible smallholder farmers in Akwa Ibom. The announcement does not provide a complete eligibility checklist, confirm that applications are open to the general public, or specify a registration deadline.

Although the headline amount is ₦300,000, the information provided at the flag-off did not confirm the loan amount, repayment terms, or disbursement dates for this phase. Farmers should therefore verify these details through authorised programme officials before relying on them.

The state and Federal Government say the collaboration is intended to expand access to economic opportunities, strengthen agricultural production and improve the welfare of low-income and vulnerable households. Inclusion in an enumeration exercise should not be treated as a guarantee of funding.

How to register

The state has commenced enumeration through designated Local Government Desk Officers. Farmers interested in being considered should contact the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs or their LGA Desk Officer to confirm whether enumeration is taking place in their community and what documents are required.

Do not pay anyone for registration or promise of approval unless an official notice confirms a lawful fee. Confirm the amount, eligibility requirements and next steps directly with authorised government representatives before submitting personal information.
