The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially confirmed that a technical error affected 157 centres during the 2025 UTME, leading to a widespread failure for many candidates. This issue occurred out of the total 887 centres nationwide.

During a press briefing in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated that the error was caused by human factors, and that the board takes full responsibility. He made it clear that JAMB remains committed to transparency, fairness, and integrity in the examination process. According to him, affected candidates will have the opportunity to retake the exam.

The glitch has been identified as a system failure that disrupted exams in several locations. Due to this, JAMB will be contacting all affected candidates and asking them to reprint their examination slips. These candidates are expected to retake their UTME starting from May 16, 2025.

Oloyede apologised for the inconvenience and reassured the public that efforts are being made to prevent such issues in future exams. He emphasized that while errors may happen, the board will always take steps to correct them.

This development is crucial for students seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, as UTME is a major requirement for tertiary education in Nigeria.
