Oando Joint Venture(OERNL & NEPL) 2025/2026 Tertiary Scholarship Scheme

0

The Oando Joint Venture (JV) 2025/2026 Tertiary Scholarship Scheme is now open for applications. This scholarship is part of a long-standing commitment by the NNPC Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL) and Oando Energy Resources Nigeria Limited (OERNL) to support education through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. The goal is to help undergraduates across Nigeria, especially in oil-producing communities, pursue their academic dreams and develop into future leaders.

Applications opened on March 27, 2025, and will close on April 30, 2025. The scheme is open to full-time undergraduates currently in their 100 level at a recognized Nigerian university. This program does not accept students already in 200 level or higher, current beneficiaries of other scholarships, or children of employees of Oando PLC or its subsidiaries.

There are two main categories of awards in this scheme. The Host Communities Merit Award is for students from the host communities of Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and Imo States. The National Merit Award is for students from other parts of Nigeria who are not from these host communities. To qualify for the National Merit Award, applicants must be studying courses like Engineering, Geology, Geosciences, or Agricultural Sciences.

The selection process includes an online aptitude test, and only candidates who are shortlisted will be invited to participate. A score of at least 50% in the test is required to be considered. Test results will be shared on noticeboards at Oando locations nationwide.

Since its launch during the 1992/1993 academic session, this scholarship has helped over 350 Nigerian students pursue higher education. The program continues to thrive, especially after Oando took over the interests of Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) in 2024. This move reflects Oando’s mission to make a lasting impact in the communities where it operates.

As part of a broader effort to invest in human capital, the scholarship aligns with high-demand career paths and encourages the development of skills that are important to Nigeria’s economy. By supporting disciplines like engineering scholarships in Nigeria, oil and gas education funding, and agricultural science scholarships, Oando ensures its scholarship remains relevant to both students and the nation’s future workforce.

Requirements / Eligibility

Must be registered full time undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions and certified 100 level students at the time of application.

NYSC: Corps Members Will Be Deployed to NDLEA Rehab Centres

0

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will begin deploying Corps Members to drug counselling and rehabilitation centres run by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This was confirmed after the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, agreed to a request made by the NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (rtd).

Marwa explained that NDLEA currently operates rehabilitation centres in 30 states, and there are plans to add seven more. This expansion aims to ensure each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has a dedicated drug rehab centre. These centres focus on substance abuse counselling and mental health rehabilitation, areas where Corps Members with relevant qualifications in psychology, social work, and public health can provide support.

The discussion took place during Nafiu’s courtesy visit to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja. Marwa also proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize cooperation between both agencies and improve their working relationship.

During the meeting, Nafiu praised Marwa’s impactful leadership, especially during his time as Governor of Lagos State and his current efforts in tackling drug abuse in Nigeria.

Regarding the idea of introducing a drug integrity test for prospective Corps Members, Nafiu mentioned that while it is a valuable suggestion, it falls under government policy. Therefore, the NYSC cannot act on it unless it becomes part of national policy.

This collaboration supports youth engagement, national service, and health-focused initiatives.

SMEDAN Disbursement: North West Students Get N5 Billion Grant

0

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has taken a significant step towards boosting youth entrepreneurship and enterprise development by disbursing ₦5 billion in grants. This funding is targeted at over 30,000 students in tertiary institutions within the North West zone of Nigeria. The initiative, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and supported by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, aims to reshape how students approach their academic and business futures.

SMEDAN’s goal is to shift students’ perspectives, urging them to see their academic journey not just as a path to knowledge, but as an opportunity to launch businesses and foster innovation. The grant program provides financial backing alongside real-world experience, helping students bridge the gap between classroom learning and the skills needed to thrive in the business world.

Dr. Charles Odili, the Director General of SMEDAN, emphasized that the agency’s work goes beyond simple grant distribution. It is about creating a solid foundation for long-term economic empowerment. “We are not just handing out grants; we are building the foundation for sustainable economic empowerment,” said Dr. Odili.

This initiative also aligns with the Workforce Support pillar of the GROW Nigerian strategy, a national initiative designed to scale up local enterprises, empower young Nigerians, and foster long-term economic growth. By expanding this grant initiative, SMEDAN is creating opportunities for youth-led innovation and small business growth across Nigeria.

The disbursement of grants will continue to other regions, ensuring that more young Nigerians have access to the resources needed to start businesses and contribute to the country’s economic development. This program represents a key step in growing Nigerian businesses from the ground up.

How Smallholder Farmers can Benefit from Oyo State Land Tractorisation Subsidy

0

The Oyo State Land Tractorisation Subsidy is a government-supported agricultural subsidy that helps smallholder farmers in Oyo State access tractors for land preparation at a reduced cost. This support is aimed at increasing food production, improving yields, and reducing the stress of manual farming. If you are a smallholder farmer in Oyo State, this step-by-step guide will show you how to take advantage of this opportunity.

1. Contact the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

The first step is to reach out to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Every Local Government Area (LGA) in Oyo State has dedicated extension officers. You can get in touch with the extension officer attached to your LGA by phone. These officers are trained to help farmers understand and benefit from government farming programs like this one.

2. Farm Visit by Extension Officer

After making contact, the extension officer will schedule a visit to your farm. During this visit, the officer will take details about your farm, including the size of the land and the type of crop you plan to grow. This step helps the government determine how much tractor service you need. Accurate farm data ensures you get the right support.

3. Book the Tractor through the Hello Tractor App

Next, the extension officer helps you book the tractorisation service using the Hello Tractor App. This mobile app connects farmers with tractor owners. It makes the booking process easy and helps the government monitor how tractors are used. With the app, farmers don’t have to wait long or go through a stressful process to get tractor services.

4. Ministry Confirms Booking and Farmer Information

Once the booking is made, backend officers at the Ministry of Agriculture will review your application. They will check the information submitted and confirm that you are eligible. If everything is in order, you will get the green light to make the required counterpart payment. This small payment is what you contribute while the government covers the rest.

5. Make Payment and Get Tractor Service

After receiving confirmation, you will pay your part of the cost into the ACCOS account. ACCOS stands for the Agricultural Cooperative and Commercial Services. Once your payment is confirmed, the Ministry will send a tractor to your farm to begin land preparation. This service makes it easier and faster to get your land ready for planting.

This subsidy is a great way to reduce the cost of farming and improve your harvest. It saves time, reduces labor, and helps smallholder farmers become more productive. If you follow these steps, you can enjoy the benefits of modern farming tools without spending too much.
