Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved a N1 billion annual bursary for Edo indigenes studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The announcement was made during a recent town hall meeting with young people in the state.

The bursary initiative, which is set to become a yearly program, aims to ease financial pressure on students and their families. The move comes in response to repeated appeals from youth leaders who called on the government to support students pursuing higher education.

Governor Okpebholo, who has spent less than eight months in office, said, “This is our way of encouraging Edo students to keep striving for academic success. We are committed to removing the financial barriers that stand between them and their goals.”

He stressed that only verified indigenes of Edo State will qualify for the bursary, noting, “Verification will be carried out through the Local Government of Origin to ensure fairness and transparency.”

The governor added that this move supports his wider goal of investing in quality education and youth development. “We believe in the power of education to transform not just individuals, but the entire state. This bursary is part of our plan to build a better Edo,” he said.

Updates on how to apply for the bursary, including deadlines and requirements, will be released soon.
